Freeze plug in coolant passages from the factory..

last night my block heater blew out the side of the block?!! any reason that would happen??? im gonna drill some holes in the thermo cause it might have been on a close cycle when i reved it up to 6 grand?

anyways i took the heater off and was poking around and there is a freakin brass freeze plug in the cooland passages there..

my question is when you get the block heater option do they just punch the plug in and install the heater?? there is no way i can get it out as it looks like someone beat the hell outta it, i can barely get it up to the hole and its freakin ovaled and the back is all pushed in...

its lasted 30k ratling around in there.. can i just forget about it?

i've gained a whole new hate for freeze plugs

You could just forget about it, nothing much new there.

It doesnt really matter what sorta shape the plug itself is in. If you can hook a screwdriver, or a similar tool, under the lip you can just pry the thing out of the block. They bend quite easily.

I found one in my 305 when I rebuilt it. I had it on an engine stand and had a bitch of a time getting it out. I ended up using needle nose vice grips and just pulling like hell. It had 103k miles on it at that point and I assume it had been in there a long dam time. I had driven it 35k w/o problems.

They're not hard to take out. That's how I take em out before I have a block dipped. I just push em in and use visegrips to grab it and pry it out.

Block heaters were installed by the dealer, send it to them.

Why? They won't warranty it after all this time.

Are there any markings on the inside of the plug?
