TPI won't run the second time
TPI won't run the second time
I finished my conversion of my wrecked 1987 IROC. I put the TPI 350 and 700r4 into a 87 CHEV shortbox truck. My computer has an aftermarket chip of unknown origin, so I bought a new one from GM. I removed the airpump and emissions from the engine to clean it up visually and efficiently. I have not hooked up the VSS or exhuast yet.
My problem is that it starts and runs great UNTIL I turn it off. It will not start again unless I leave it for up to 20 min or more.....
In this time it will just turn over faster than normal and not fire at all. It has spark and appears to be getting fuel???
I've done LT1 swaps and Chev v8 to almost every vehicle, but I have never used a TPI or seen this problem. I am out of Ideas.

Could it be your injectors are leaking down??? I have read that injectors will leak with age and in fact act like a sticking choke on a carb setup and flood the engine.

I haven't heard of that before. After I recheck the sensors and ecm, its the next big job to take on and check. Thx and I'll keep trying. Ever heard of a sensor malfunctioning to cause the ecm to not use the cold start injector or something??? It does it after its run .... short or long times. I'm trying a borrowed ecm tommorrow.
I checked out your site...nice work.

Its fixed and thx for the reply and keeping me going on the right path. The cold start injector was receiving power after the key was released from "start" and was flooding the engine. Another vehicle saved to become a streetrod.:hail:
