brought heads to machine shop today

i got the 305 416 heads with 41,000 original miles on it, i took them there to get the bigger 1.94 intake valves, there also going to put the new springs in there, for 240.00 canadian, now my next question is porting and polishing, do i just get the gasket and go even with the lines of the gaskets, i might let them port them for me they want 5 hours at 65 bucks an hour, i think i can handle them myself ,

all you pro's that ported your heads give me some good advice

greatly apreciated

Porting the heads might work well for you, most first timers get a set to practice on first.

If you have good mechanical abilities, you can do it. I think Vader posted his templates somewhere...try PM'ing him.

If for some reason you decide to pay someone, add up your total cost of 240 (does this also include new hardware?) + 325, and consider aftermarket heads. Could be for just a few bucks more, you'll have a better set of heads.

I don't think 5 hours is going to get you a full porting job, most likely a gasket match and blend, maybe polishing as well.
