Zz-4 Head Porting
I'M PORTING A SET OF ZZ-4 ALUM. HEADS. I NEED SOME ADVICE, IS IT O-K TO CUT AWAY THE PRESSED IN STEEL VALVE GUIDE? HOW MUCH MATERIAL SHOULD I REMOVE IN THE BOWL AREAS? HAS ANY BODY DONE THIS BEFORE? I AM SURE THEY HAVE- I DID A SEARCH AND THERE'S 267 THREADS FOR HEAD PORTING AND ZERO THREADS FOR THE ZZ-4 HEADS. JUST DON'T HAVE THE TIME TO READ THEM ALL. HELP ME OUT HERE FELLAS-MIKE

thanks joe- i have the s-a porting kit. it outlines pretty much what was on that link. i am more interested in the specifics of the zz-4 heads. i've been getting pretty crazy with the port work and was wondering how thin i can grind the walls between the runners and the water jackets. your car is real close to the setup i've been building-what's it run?-mike.

tpi_roc, thanks that's the link I was really looking for. That one is really good.
Mike, I'm still running the AFR/SR/219cam setup in my car for about another month when I rebuild the 383 again. Right now I'm having bigtime ring sealing problems. When I get done with the new setup and after installing Hooker Supercomps, I'm expecting 475-500hp at the crank or almost 400rwhp. That's what I'm shooting for, but it takes a lot of block preparation and careful assembly to get those kind of #'s from a superram setup, but it can be done with AFR's. I've seen it.

I made a post a while back with a collection of some of my favorite porting links, if you read each and everyone you'd be a pro by the time you were done, might try to do a search for it.
There are other good write ups like this one
