Knock Retard and 1/4 mile

Hey. Well, I got done doing all my mods (see sig) and went to the track ready to improve upon my bone stock times. This did not happen though.

Now when I ran my car stock a year and a half ago I ran a 14.7 @ 95 MPH in 50* weather with little to no humidity. I went back last Thursday (90* and around 80% humidity) and my best was a 14.7 @ 93. I ran with the Moates software logging and found out that on my 2-3 shift the computer was pulling some timing, 5* at the shift point. My base timing was at 9* BTDC. Third felt kind of sluggish and I guess I know why now. I have the scans if they'd be helpful.

I haven't gotten into prom burning yet so I'm still running the stock chip. I'm wondering if the computer pulling timing is what caused me to run what I did. I was getting 2.1x 60' times and traction was good. After the stuff I've done I at least expected to run a little bit faster... So, can someone shed some light on it?

David

What is your FP at? If you have an AFPR I would try giving it more FP and reset your base timing back to stock.

Definatly set the timing back to 6 BTDC. The stock L98 heads won't take anymore than 28d total timing at WOT. I've done a little testing on a 92z28 L98 car.

I'm running the stock Fuel Pressure. Yeah I'm gonna set my timing back to 6*. My EGR is also shot and I'm gonna replace it soon too. I've heard it can cause knocks too when malfunctioning.

Your problem sounds similar to mine (2-3 shift problems). I have yet to run with a scantool but I will shortly and I woulnd't doubt at this point if my results aren't similar to yours. If they aren't then I'm at a loss for what's nex lol. Good luck!

Thanks. I've seen your post on the 94 MPH Brick wall. I'm hoping it was just the Knocks but I don't think it would cause me that much trouble. Maybe my parts combinatation was wrong or something else I did was wrong...
