N/A 305 TPI guys in here

lets here some major mods you guys have done and some times.. i wana get an idea what i will be dealing with at the end of the summer. The ZZ4 cam looks like a nice cam and will give me some major power now that the peanut will be leaving! Also new heads and better exhaust will all help in my dream of 13 sec in the 305. Lets hear what you guys got and what you plan on doing to keep up with the times. No 305 bashing please. or TPI bashing...

1.8 - 1.9 60' I have only broke the 13's 2 times. I'm hoping to get it a little more consistent. I am also running BFG drag's. Those dropped me .5 - .6 sec.

I'm looking at replacing the cam with a 212/218 CompCam and a set of Torquer 305 heads and 52mm TB. Either that or a 218/224.

Jfreeman74 that 218/224 may about right. i'm runnin a 214/224 in my LB9 and it idles rough and sounds mean. it runs a 14.6@96 mph with only a 2.2 short time. the car needs a converter really bad but it pulls all the way to 5000. i ported the plenum and port matched the rest of the intake and i have edlebrock headers. i am hoping a set of ported heads and aftermarket base will give me a little more horsepower, and with the converter i'm adding i hope it will run a high 13.

The 85 LB9 stock cam pulls hard to 5K with stock exhaust.... You should be getting more than that out of your cam, I'm getting 5500 out of my ZZ4 which is only 208/221 and that's in a 350. It should pull 6000 in a 305. Makes me wonder what heads you have. I had the 416's with 1.84 intakes on my stock 305. With the cam you are describing I would add 1.94's to your stock head with a bowl job and port cleanup if you can do the work yourself. If not, the 305 world is realistically stuck with the World 305 S/R heads due to combustion chamber size and diameter. Unless you want to build a 302 instead......

If you buy the World S/R for 305's, do a bowl job on them. It will open them up to 245 cfm intake flow (or better if you do the guides as well). The exhaust side is a little iffy on those heads, that may be what's hurting me on my car. They only flow 170 cfm after the bowl job.... That's 69% of the intake when they should flow 80%. The relatively high exhaust lift (compared to the intake) of the ZZ4 cam should help out though.

PS: I think the stock 1.94/1.50 World S/R heads flow 197 cfm intake and 160 (?) on the exhaust. I was told by a professional head porter that the intakes open up nicely but the exhaust is a poor design.

305's redline at 5000 if you take it to 6000 it might blow up. But my my mods are in my sig, except I changed over to a hooker aerochamber, and I've disconnected my A/C. Ive dynoed at 191 RWHP and 235 lb-ft. I havent had a chance to run out at RMR this year, but that will change when I turn 18. I was going to install gears but I have the Borg-Warner rear end with POSI TRAC, so I'd have to do some work to put 3.73's. But I plan on SFC's, 3200 Stall, Lingenfelter/Accel runners, vortec manifold and heads, Edelbrock TES, Exhaust cut-out, and maybe a 335 stroker kit. And for sh#ts and giggles, maybe a vortech S/C or turbo.

In other words, " 1986 Trans Am, free, 335 Stroker, $600, custom back mount Turbo, $2,000, look on LS1 Driver's face when he learns he was wasted by a 305, priceless."

im running al. L98 heads that have been slightly ported, comp cam (210/220 .480/.480 112LSA) SLP headers and exhaust. the best i did at the track was a 15.3 at 94 with a 2.6 60ft. that was bogging down like a **** then smoking the clutch for a 1/8 of a mile. i cant drive a 5spd to save my life.

on the street its a different story. i roll the RPM's up to about 2500 and nail it and the car takes of like a rapped ape.

My 305 runs mid to low 14's depending on the weather and launch.
