I know that but the memcal is part of the ECM and I was wondering how you tell whether it has VATS or not if I don't know what year it is.........geez sorry for not getting so technical.
I didn't mean that in a nasty way.
I don't think you will be able to tell by looking at the ECM. It should be the same part number as non-VATS ECMs.
If the harness is still attached, look for a wire on F10 (it'll be the green/yellow connector going into the ECM). That wire is for the VATS module.
Seriously, I think that's about the best you can do.

The only thing I can think of, if it is out of a Camaro or Firebird is to take off the cover of the ECM for the prom/memcal, get the numbers off of the prom and use this link as a reference to see if it has vats. For reference if it is a Camaro prom, Vats started in 89 I believe, and Firebirds had the option available in 88.

sorry for biting back.....I was not in the best of moods and yeah...you know how that is I'm sure. Thanks for the help though found my answer...bought a TPI off a firebird and I heard that the firebird had VATS like starting in '87 so I was kinda worried that after I hooked everything up the car wouldn't start but I got lucky and it's off a firebird that didn't get that option.
Again sorry for taking it a little harder then it should have been and thanks for the help!
