another 305 lt1 up and running

Well after i got to the track with the tpi and did a 14.5 at 93 i switched over the intake.I will hopefully get to the track in 1 week and let you all know the results. It feels pretty nasty up top now and still has a good amount of torque.Have to do some fine tuning before i get there but i will post asap.

I've run 14.4 on my 305tpi. Perhaps it's my 3.45 9 bolt rear, aluminum shaft and 5spd setup.

Otherwise, the motor is stock other than bumped up timing, leaky injectors, and an airfoil/cai setup and 180,000km's or so.

well my 305 tpi automatic runs mid 14's prolly better now since all i put in it other than what the pre-owner put on it, he even had time slips on it, so hmm.. im sure his 305 lt1 will run high 13's, when i use to race my car i use to beat 350 camaros left and right, but i quit racing due to blowin my transmission which i got rebuilt and it cost me 1200 bucks, but now it shifts so much harder and better its great

Why do people make such a big deal when someone with a 305 runs in the 13's? I'm running in the 13's right now. Sure, I have have put a lot of money into it to get it there and I may have a better stock cam in my '85 but come on it is possible. Were your running street tires with the 14.4? If so, you just dropped about a half a second with a good set of drags. Get a good TC (for you automatic guys) and you just dropped another .5 - .7. With just those 2 mods a stock 305 can go from low 15's to low 14's. Add headers and exhaust, so free mods and bam your in the 13's. I'm going to do heads, cam and possibly the intake. I'm looking to be in the low 13's to upper 12's. Gotta love that torque convertor. The best mod you can do to an automatic. Can't we just stop the 305 hating. It seems like people on the site get pissed off when they see people running faster than they are. There are enough 3rd gen haters out there. Can't we all just hate the Mustang. Sorry to get off topic there but all this 305 bashing is rediculous.

I love my 305. When it blows, she'll be replaced with a 5.7 though...

Sounds about the rpm's the stock HEI craps out. Although new it still could be the alt. Not sure of the tester at the stores spin that high but you might want to take it back to see or just get another to be safe.

The alternator is new and they tested it in the car at 4500 rpms they saw the drop even with the new alternator. And i have a msd gm blaster coil so i dont think it could be that.any other ideas would be great thanks.

Before you knock the 305TPI, keep in mind that a 305TPI car with 3.42 rear and 5 speeed runs *ALMOST* the same time as a 350TPI, 700R4, 2.73/3.23.

for all u people stuck in the 80s where 13 second cars pull wheelies and arent able to run on the street. 13s are easy to hit with a 305 5spd u dont even need to touch the cam, heads or gears either. id love to know how that LT1 intake works out for u ive been debating that fo ra long time.

Guys i got it to the track and it was SLOWER .The fastest i got was a 14.79 at 94 with the lt1 intake. Now i must say it did that with the stock prom and the fuel and spark curves are all way off.i will let ya know if i get back with any changes to the tuning but same conditions and prom it went about 2 tenths slower.

Where were you shifting? A tune will definitely help! BTW, thanks for posting the results.

I was shifting at about 5500.And for the past week my alternator has not been working too good at all over 4500 for some reason so i have to get that fixed.I know it needs majore tuning because under 3000 there is a little hesitation.

Exactly how many 13 sec passes have you run that you say it's "easy"? Easy would be every time out.

redtail2624 what were your 60fts like on that slower run compared to your best ET? Weather conditions? Hopefully you get the LT1 intake swap working for you. Thanks for getting some more useful info out on the conversion for those interested.

ok with the tpi my 60 ft was 2.055 and the lt1 was 2.191.The engine makes a little more horsepower as i went through the trap at 94 instead of 93 and i was also faster at the 1/8 mile mark with the lt1 but the significant torque loss really hurt my launch as you can see.but the tuning on the tpi was way better then what it is with the lt1 as of now and reminded my alternator is really hurting me over 4500 right now.I do believe i could have gotten another 3 or 4 tenths out of the pit with porting etc because that intake was stock unported and with slightly better tuning.I cant really get more out of the lt1 intake itself but i know there is way more power hiding in her and will get it out of tuning.with that said i believe the lt1 has more potential then the tpi just takes all little more work to get it there.
