no airbox

Today I went to install a K&N filter and gut my airbox. Instead I just removed the bottom part of the airbox. Is this ok, I mean, is there a chance that the filter could melt or something. The filter # is E-0890, the stock replacement. Also, now there is a hiss coming from my exhaust at idle. Guess it's time to upgrade from the single cat setup.

Just as long as no water gets in there, you're fine.
