new motor....new induction
Ok I am going to be building a lightly modded (about 325-350 horses or so) and I am looking for soemthing better then the TBI, but not as gas hogging, and closer to emmisions legal then a carb. I found a full TPI stup sopmeone in my state is sellin for about 250 bucks. Ok now question goes, will this breath ok for this setup? If not what would need to be done....new runners?
thanks the help is much appreciated, you guys rock!!!!

Oh....lol sorry I didn't even think to post that stuff.....
ok heres the deal.
350 motor
186s for the heads pocket ported, flat milled
Stock Chevy 929 CAM
STock crank
stock rods
CR of 9:1 which I hope will allow for lower then highest grade gas
Intake will be the TPI intake manifold and TPI setup.....which I hope off of a 305 will run ok on the 350.....its off of an 87 Trans Am GTA WS6
exhaust: Hedders and some kind of better then stock Catback system.
hope thats enough!!!
Thanks sorry for forgetting on the original posts....

you will need bigger injectors and a new knock sensor along with the rest of the billions of sensors that come with tpi.... thats if you go with TPI. stock cam sounds kinda weak for that set up. LT1, ZZ4, or LT4 cam would probably work well.

The TPI hardware is the same for a 305 or 350 except the injectors and the knock sensor, IIRC.
To acheive 300-350 hp a TPI system would be fine, but it should be upgraded. I would suggest porting the base and plenum. You can do this yourself. You will need to get a die grinder and some cutting burs and sandpaper rolls. There is a tech article about doing it yourself. I would then suggest some high flow runners, siamesed or large tube. As for the cam keep it reasonable, duration less than 220* @.050 with as much lift as you can get. The LPE 219 cam is very good. The ZZ9 is also good. Comp has many grinds to suit your needs, just call them or email them. There are many emissions legal cams out there.
I assume those heads are iron. The CR should allow you to run low octane gas. I would bump it up to 9.5 or a little more. May require higher octane gas though, it's up to you.
I think those heads are going to be your biggest pit fall to your engine. Maybe look around for something better used. Another option is the GMPP Vortec heads. They are inexpensive and flow very well. The biggest down fall to them is they require the application specific TPI base manifold. That may not be something your budget will allow.
Good luck...

ok so some sensors. Realistically how many sensors are we talking here......would it be better to go find a TPI system in a junkyard IROC or something with a 350 and purchase that? It might be more expensive is the only issue with that.
What amount of lbs per injector would be needed for a 350 HP setup? I am reading about it. Seems like about 24-26 Lbs is about right for a higher perf 350 than stock?
What heads would be suggested for this build then? I have read on this setup and it produces 350 HP with good pistons, due to the CR increase.
Thanks!

well, the harness is what sounds like you need if you already have the tpi set up. a new 350 knock sensor is a good idea, and maybe getting a set of new 24# injectors would feed tha 300-350hp motor. maybe 26#(as whats in the LS1). 22# might not push enuff fuel, and even with an afpr, it sitll might not be enuff...

Hes selling the system with EVERYTHING but the injectors....that and apparently the O2 and knock sensors are gonna be the parts I'll need. Is 250 for the TPI setup worth it??
I really wanan do this, cause I like fuel injection more (its more interesting to me) and its better on Gas, which I need!!
whats an AFPR? There are so many acronyms I don't understand!! Is there some kind of table suggesting size of injector for particular application???
Other issue, is will the stock ECM be able to support an engine pushin 350 horses?
thanks alot guys, your all a great help!!
take it easy

22 lbers will supply a 350 with stock induction, no problem. With a bigger cam, better flowing heads, then you need to look at bigger injectors. With any injector other than stock 305, the ECM will need to be recalibrated (chip burnt). Did I mention I have a set of Delco 22lbers for sale?

This will be a 350 block, a TPI system (I'll probably just find a 350 engine from a camaro with the TPI on it) pushing about 350 horses. Now from what I have read this far, it would seem that 22 lbs would not be enough. I would need somewhere in the light of 26 or so. Would I be able to run the TPI system with different heads, different cam, and better injectors, and keep the same ECM or would that need a burn??
Thanks!

Considering the stock 350 TPI has around 245 hp & you are talking 350 hp, yes you will need to burn a new chip. Most aftermarket heads & cams will work on the TPI setup. The ECM will not be a limiting factor as long as you can burn chips for it.

Since you asked earlier: AFPR
Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator, lets you set your fuel pressure.
I agree with what the others are saying. You would need to do chip work of course to get it running where you want it. I suggest you learn to do your own tuning. Its better for you in the long run.
Also I think $250 for the intake and wiring harness is a steal, if I understood you correctly. You did say everything but the injectors, o2, and knock sensor. I think 24#ers will satisfy your fuel needs.
Heads are going to be your biggest area of concern. Look for some GOOD flowing heads. AFR, Trick Flow, World, GMPP. They may be expensive up front, but they will serve your needs now and later on when you decide you need 400-450 hp.
Have fun...

$250 is awesome if you get the wiring harness, runners, plenum, base, Throttle body, and computer... That is a down right cheap! Look at the classifieds here. That setup right there would sell for $350.00 - $500.00 + shipping in most cases.
Get some LT1 injectors from ebay (make sure reputable seller)
an AFPR
You will also need a new fuel pump and fuel lines
Pick up a walbro 255lph on ebay brand new for $100.00
Take the time to port and polish the TPI setup and for right at $500 (with a custom chip) the TPI setup will easily be able to support 350 hp.
Also I would look into dropping the maf and going speed density. Much better for performance.
