converter questions

I'm going to be ordering a converter within the next week and had a few questions. I was considering a 3000-3500 stall and was curious if that may be too much. I'm not sure where these intakes usually see peak torque numbers, this is the first one I've built or even deat with. Also, how much better do you guys think a yank or vigilante is over a TCI. I know they are better, just are they worth the extra cash. oh and I'm going to be running a 700r4. Like always, thanks guys

With your setup I would definitely go with at least a 3200. I would recommend the Midwest Converters. They are not nearly as expensive as a Yank or Vigilante but they perform just as well. A buddy of mine has a Midwest 3600 in his '98 LS1 TA and he is happy with that. He had a 3000 Yank in it before that.

I think I'm going to go with the yank over a vig. My friend has a vig. and my little brother has a yank, both '02 silverado's. The tranny temp with the yank stays about 25 degrees cooler than the vig. However, the vig. stalls about 400-500 rpms higher, than my brothes yank. Also the vig. picked up et but lost about 2 mph in the 1/8, the yank lost about a tenth but picked up a couple mph. Does anyone know the best places to buy any of the three (vig., yank, or midwest). We ordered their's through a speed shop but the guy has been a ***** lately, I don't think he deserves any more of my business. Thanks for the help so far

Why waste the money on the Yank? Oh well, it's your money. Buying a Yank over a Midwest is like buying a Random Tech cat over a Car-Sound cat. It cost twice as much and doesn't perform any better.

where do you get a midwest from? Direct from factory, or through a distributor?

There's not much on there website because they build each converter to math what you want. They can set thr STR for the converter to whatever you want.

I ran a Yank 3200 lock up converter on my '88. It was a great converter, perfect in all driving conditions and never had any probs with heat or anything. So I personally recommend Yank. I bought is direct from them, I think that is the cheapest route.

As far as Midwest is concerned, from what I've seen with LS1 cars, they are right there with Yank and Vig as far as et reduction and such, but they tend to be less efficient and suck out a couple more mph than a Yank or Vig. But then again, they are less expensive, so I guess its a trade off.

A buddy of mine(Blacker) has a '98 TA and he changed from a Yank 3000 stall w/3.0 STR to a Midwest 3600 stall with (I think) a 2.0 STR and dropped .5 sec on his ET. I'm not sure what his MPH were.
