Actually I thought the same when I was repairing my gta from a engine fire. I had bought a engine wiring harness out of a 87 IROC tpi and I had noticed that there was one more connector with the computer connectors in the GTA, the Iroc did not have it.
FYI I had to basically rewire the harness to work with the GTA.

The Camaro and Firebird ECM's are completely inter-changeable (1986-1989 & 1990-1992), no "extra" connectors on either one. I am using a 165 ECM that came from a GTA in my IROC right now, same number of connectors and same pin-outs.
I'll try to scan those diagrams tomorrow. I'll need to E mail them because they will be too big to post here and making them smaller will severely hurt the resolution. So, if you want them drop me an E mail and let me know.

The ecms are the same. The wiring harness is not. There is a extra 6 wire connector in with the computer wiring. It may be a thing that only a digital dash car has, I don't know but its there. here is a pic.

There is no place on the ECM for another connector. If it was a connector for the ECM the harness may have had a pigtail for that connector bit it didn't hook directly to the ECM, and if the "extra" wiring was for the electronic dash, then the Camaro engine wiring would be the same as the Firebird

OK it does not go on the ecm. It is the b+ for the left and right side fuel injectors and a tan wire which I can't remember. It is included with the ecm wiring but branches of to the 6 hole connector next to the ecm. Obviously our cars are different. And it must be that way because I have the digital dash. I do not have access to a Firebird without the digital dash to see if it has the connector or not. All I am saying that my 87 GTA with a 350tpi and digital dash has a extra connector. If jared C. car doesnt then I do agree with you Morley they should be the same.

Even if he has the Electronic dash (if that is what it is for) the wiring diagrams he is looking for will be the same as the camaro (engine and fuel delivery), Does your car have VATS? (I know it was supposed to be an addition in 89 but it is possible that you got an oddball) VATS may explain the "extra" wiring to the ECM also.

no do not have vats. I plugged in the harness from the 87 camaro and the ses light wouldnt even light up. I repinned the harness to what the 86 firebird manual showed and it fired right up. They even had the extra connector listed in the diagrams. I have a 88 firebird manual and I will look at it tonight when i am in des moines to see it it has it or not and I will scan a pic of it.
