Stock TPI 350 quarter-mile numbers

Hi all. I'm looking to see what kind of times people are running with stock or nearly stock 350 TPI cars. I know what to expect, so i'm looking for actual elapsed times.

Thanks,
TurboSteve

I ran a 14.96@93.1 with my convertible. The engine is all stock with 63k miles, and thats how old almost all the parts are

Yes, it needs a tuneup. If you cant break into the 15's, something is wrong. Should be able to run mid 14's.

1st run in this car, had a gutted interior and that was it. 14.3 at 96 mph. On some 15" radials. The car runs way lean and needs to be tuned or at least have a new chip burned for her. But I think that with some 555's and tuning she might have run a 14 flat later that night with the cooler weather. There are so many factors that affect ET's

Sounds more like a 14.4 would be in order. Although with that setup I would not doubt low 14's if even a 14 flat at sea-level. Depends on the gearing too. He could have changed that, and it would be damn hard to tell. What do the rpms read at around 65mph??? 2.77 ususally is just under 1800 rpms, 3.27's would be a bit higher. anything higher and it could be some 3.73's or better

I only have 1/8th mile times but it seems my car runs a lot better then most stock L98 cars here. Kinda wierd actually becuase the closest i've found (and better at that) is SweetS10v8. But i don't even have SFC's, It is completely stock down to paper filters and when i ran it was with street tires, and no track prep at all.. just drove it there like i do everyday. So comparing my 1/8th times with SweetS10v8's times I should be right there with him at around 14.2.

What gets me though is how he runs a 9.06 with a 2.02 60ft at 75.6 when I run a 9.09 with a 1.93 60ft ad trap at 76.7

But maybe the previous owner had done some work to my car that wasn't mentioned.. I dunno but as far as i know it's bone stock, because I'm too poor to mod it

Only way to find out for sure is to run it at the track. LTR setups are deceiving in the 1/8 mile because of the serious low end torque. They (stock anyhow) run out of breath after the 1/8 mile mark and stop pulling hard. I believe that is why so many people on this forum run the 1/8 mile. Their LTR allows them to beat some cars that would run them down before the end of the 1/4 mile. I am not impressed with the 1/8 mile because I, like NHRA dragracers, am a 1/4 mile guy.

If i had a choice I'd be at the 1/4 mile track too, but it's like 3 hours away instead of 30 minutes to the 1/8th mile track, and I have 2 to choose from at that.

tpivette89,

Seeing you are Delaware, I'll bet your cars get the "Cecil Mod".

haha, ive heard about that... not sure why that track is considered a "mod" though. its roughly at sea level (90 ft above i think) and its the standard length. its not like its downhill or anything. however, i was at Capital a while back and saw a Vette running 13.2s. a few weeks later i saw him at Cecil running 13.0s. some tracks are better than others i guess

14.02 @ 99.6 mph with a 2.0 60 foot time on Pep Boys Ultra Zs at Beech Bend in Bowling Green, KY.

Also a hand-full of 14.0xs at anywhere from 98.0 to 99.5 mph on 2.0x 60s to 2.2s.

1988 GTA, 350, TPI (stock parts-except port matched) 1.6 roller-tip rockers, stock cam, headers (have used both Edelbrock and SLP 1-3/4" with no difference), no cat, Edelbrock cat-back, pocket ported heads with 3-angle valve job, home-made ram-air, 3.27 BW rear, full weight, spare still in nothing taken out (well, except fiberglas rear spoiler) and my lard-azz rump.

hehehe.....i get on average 20 miles a gallon split between hwy/street racing/drag racing cause there is no city driving. it's either WOT or on the brakes

on road trips i've gotten over 28 mpg and still pulling 1.96 60' times on 17" GSC's and they are old too boot

with the new front Y pipe i added and free flow cat i'm hoping for a 13.6 maybe with some colder air like it is tonight (55 degrees at 10 pm or a bit colder) 13.3's to 13.4's?!?!?!

The previous owner said he ran a 15.3? on bald tires. It chirps tires really bad, I'm either too new at driving "Right-Wheel-Drive" or it can't get any power to the ground, where it belongs. Squealing tires are for losers who like to turn heads. I want speed, not noise. Oh, it's bone stock, too.

I have not once chirped the tires. I don't know if its my gearing, or whats going on. The power seems to be there, the tranny is less than 6 months old. Has a mild shift improver, but not a full on kit. It shifts hard from 1-2. But has never barked em...... I guess I like it that way, but alot people are surprised it is so low-pro.

The 91 had the tranny rebuilt b4 i got it. It has the same, mild shift improver. Its nice and firm, and if its cool, the trans pulls hard enough that the tire just does a spin, not a chirp into second. the 14.4 and 2.0x 60ft was on pepboys futuras and a worn out posi.

Will, you posi would be a possibility, but i think those 2.77's hold you back even more.

Ya the 2.77's are not exactly the greatest gear ratio for the 1/4. But I do have another 9 bolt disc rear with 3.27's that I am going to be swapping in soon. I only wish I could have found that 3.45 geared rear that I hear so much about. But I think a working posi with 3.27's should be a very nice combo, and mild enough for my daily driving.
