Next mod after Plenum

I am just about to work over the plenum (ordered gaskets today).

It occured to my the I didn't know what the next mod should be to improve airflow. Further, is it something I should do when I have the plenum off?

I do not what to remove the intake manifold at this time. I want to wait until the heads get pulled for freshening. There is oil leaking past the guides.

I was think of going to aftermarket runners. Would this be worth while and if so which style?

My previous mods are in my sig.

Thanks

not air flow related but,,,with the plenum off you can easily put in an AFPR.

i would wait for runners until the base is out. that way you can port both and install both at the same time. i doubt you'd see any gains with aftermarket runners and untouched stock base.

Take a look at this article from CHP:

http://www.chevyhiperformance.com/te...pi/index1.html

Stock runners are restrictive, but think of the system as a whole. There have been a lot of claims that replacing the runners by themselves will increase HP, but what's after the runners...the intake manifold. I would go with what llvll4l2c91350 said only if you plan on pulling the heads off soon. Other than that, you could get aftermarket runners and see how it feels. Good luck!

Thanks for the info, its helpfull

I guess i'm trying to figure out were the next most resrictive area's are. I will keep doing searches and see if someone has flow numbers.

If you pull the manifold to port it, don't you have to pull the injectors as well. or just hope they don't get banged around when you are grinding on the manifold.

I idea of taking a well running car and screwing it up does scare me.

Thanks

Well - before you get aftermarket runners (this being when you pull the heads) you can in the meantime port match the stock runners to the ported plenum. Just a smoothing of the transition area - 1 or 2 hp over a ported plenum with unmatched runners.

Is an adjustable fuel pressure regulator worth the money? I've done about every bolt-on to my engine....and I thought maybe I could get a fuel pressure guage and the regulator???

An AFPR is worth it because it is a good tuning tool. Some cars will run better at a different fuel pressure. Don't do the cheap quarter trick because you really don't know if your car needs more FP or not.

I have not only read it but have it printed along with another article as well. They will be taped over my work bench. I hope to have the gasket set by this friday.

I, also, have to rebuild the drivers side headlight motor.

I had just walked out of the movie theater, got in and started the car. As I turned on the headlights, two teenage girls walking on the sidewalk passed in front of the car. The drivers side light went up about 3/4 of the way and dropped back down, twice. It must of looked like the car was winking at them because one laughed and the other gave me a dirty look.

I have a kit on the way and will rebuild them both. On the brite side they worked for over 15 years before going bad.

Ok, the job is done.

Throttle response is way up.

Worked over the area behind the TB openings. Why GM left that ridge behind the TB, I have no idea. Took some metal from the side walls just behind the tb openings and smoothed the transition on the walls.

The runner area looked like they matched up pretty well. I did not work over those and left them on the manifold. I did this by running back and forth with the gaskets.

When I freshen the heads,or money willing, get Vortec heads and a new intake manifold. I will match everthing up with the new runners.

Thanks to everyone with there input.

If you are thinking of doing this mod, I highly recommend it! :lala:
