85 TPi owners what cam are you using??
I am thinking of doing a cam swap along with porting some head for my 85 TPI and was wondering what cam some other people have used in thier 85's and what you thought of them?
i have the stock cam in my 85 305 tpi. that was the bigger cam for the tpi's. if i were u i would just keep the stock cam and get a set of 1.6 rr to raise the lift a little. thats what im going to do.
I have done cam swaps on someware between 14 and 16 1985-1986 corvettes over the last 10-12 years (lost some of the records) but generally the best overal results have been with the CRANE 114132 cam on nearly stock engines, it works with ALL the stock parts, it does not have clearance problems in the stock engines valvetrain or piston to valve issues, it passes emmission testing, it adds a slight lope to the idle, and it gives about a 30hp boost in performance with nearly stock low rpm torque yet improved higher rpm breathing. it costs about $130-$150 at most discount suppliers (WITH LIFTERS) and it works with stock rockers. crane says it requires a 3.73 rear gear but Ive installed it in almost every case in corvettes with the stock gearing with ZERO PROBLEMS , its power range is 2000rpm-5000rpm, headers and porting the TPI intake help it work even better but are not mandatory.

I have a 85 305 TPI, mods in sig. The 85's 305 TPI's are known for having the strongest cams of all the 305 autos. Like "V6camaroman" suggested, I too am considering 1.6 rockers. Comp Cam Magnum roller-tip 1.6's are known to be a quality piece for the $$$. Seems to be a reasonable way to cut friction & add a bit of lift. The stock lift on these cams is .403/.415. With 1.6's that becomes .430/.443. Has anyone out there tried this set-up under similiar conditions, and what was your impression of the results?

I have a lifter that makes noise from time to time so as temting as the 1.6's are it looks like it will be a cam for me. I also would like to find an extra set of 416's to port before the cam swap to get a double benefit from all the work I will have to do.

I just had my 85 Z's 305 TPI rebuilt and I threw in a Crane Compucam #114122 lift of .423/.446, it has a nice little idle and power is from 1500-4500. My Iroc has a Hypertech airfoil, Hooker headers, a/c delete, the cam. It runs strong with that cam plus it gets you noticed but not too much. I would recommend this cam to ya. Not too big and not to small. Happy hunting
