converting a v6 mpfi harness to tpi
can the v6 harness be modified to be used with tpi...
what sensors do i need to make the tpi work... and where can i get the plugs for the injectors... only have 6 on the v6 harness...
my racecar project might be getting a 90-92 speed density setup... if i can get the wiring and sensors all lined out...
thanks,
Chris

im gunna say no just because you would be lacking 2 more injectors in the harness along with a few other things. I belive that 3.1's have a digital or electronic egr valve where teh v-8's have a vaccume operated one.

anything is possible......if you can solder or crimp wires, you can make a v-6 harness into a v-8 harness. the connectors for the injectors are available in a few places, MSD makes em, you can get em in Jegs or summit, but the cheapest place to get em is in a u-pull-it junkyard......on other FWD v-6 cars....for that matter, just about every connector you need you can get there, and pretty much for nothing....and if you do need new connectors, usually pep boys etc, will have TPS, MAP, CTS connectors. Hope that helps.

Any EFI thirdgen harness can be converted to another engine / ECM without too much work. Depending on what to what, you might need to change / add a few things, but the basic stuff is all the same. TPS, O2, 2 injector fused feeds, CTS, IAT, etc. You can reuse MAF wiring as MAP wiring, run a new wire knock sensor for a memcal based ESC module if going to a '730 for example.
Specifically how to do it? Start with a copy of the wiring diagram of what you have, and what you want to go to. Note similarities and go from there. Good planning is the key.

any updates on this? i have a speed density v6 harness that i want to make into tpi v8 ive been going though my pinouts of both of them and it looks as if the only thing thats different is the v6 harness only needs two injector wires to be added and the egr is digital(havent figured that one out yet)probraly need the egr system off a tpi engine then the memcal needs to be from a v8 of course.

Yup, been there, done that. Wouldn't do it again.
some wires need to be shortened, others lengthened. they are grouped together wrong too so they get all tangled. Basically, I ended up making a new V8 harness using parts from a couple of V6 harnesses. took me about 10-12 hours to get it right.

harnesses for tpi run a high dollar and if you already have a v6 one its cheaper... did you have any problims with the connectors not being right?
I managed to get all the connector I needed, but nat all were used for the same thing for the V6 vs V8. For example, there is no distributor on the V6, but there was a connector on the harness that worked for the distributor on the V8.

Oh. If you're swapping a harness in, unless you're a masochist you'd want to start with a TPI harness.
I thought you meant you were converting a V6 MPFI car to TPI. In which case there's so much work in seperating the engine and internal harness that it washes out IMO with any work extending a few wires and running a new knock sensor wire. It's a question of how much of the stock wiring do you want to disturb, and i prefer to err towards leaving it alone
