My car runs better when the MAF is disconnected, what would cause this? My MAF was hanging bout 2 months ago and was 1 of the 5 pins got ate up by my alternator band.

ahahah im gunna take a stab in the dark but... you have a bad maf!
It runs better because the computer has a set of "limp home mode" presets so incase of a sensor malfunction, you can get home and fix it. Its a back up device. Get the Wells Su-145 mass air flow sensor, and make sure this one doesnt get beat up by the alt ok? Good luck with the car.

ok, i went the the local kragen, i asked to see the Mass Air Flow Sensor and they brought out the whole big peice that goes under the little sensor connects to. All i need is the sensor that connects into it, comin from the wires n all that cuz 2 of the little pins got ate up by my alternator band.

What do i ask for when i try to get the piece?

it shoudl just be a plastic tube with the sensor inside, and on the "bottom" of the sensor should be where you plug teh maf in... its all one piece.

I think you mean the "connector" that plugs into the maf sensor, right ?

You can usually find one in a junk yard, just cut it off with plenty of spare wire and splice it in.

the connector does not have to be off a v-8 TPI car. it can be off a v-6 car. they work also.
