what is the proper procedure step by step so I dont fry it? thnks

1st. Are you sure it's the ECM? How do you know?

Do you mean the whole ECM (silver box) or the memcal (plastic plug with some chips on it)?

I would check out the tech articles. I dont thinks there is that much to it. I had mine replaced and it didn't take long at all.


A 1899 iroc? Now thats a classic.

If its already fried why are you worried? Just kiddin, if you are sure the ECU is your problem, then all you have to do is make sure the key is off, remove the trim below the 'glovebox' pocket area, take out the two bolts holding it in, and unplug the connectors. The ECU sits directly behind that pocket so it has to be pulled down to come out.

on my 88, my installer used an electronic device to tell the ecm what car it was in. The ecm came out of an astro van, of all things.

I figured the chip would do that. Strange!

and thnks guys but... should I unplug the Battery? and I bought a new reconditioned whatever ECM, for a 1988 350 camaro. so I just have to plug it in and it should work right? thnks I need to do it tonight to gety to work thnks. Kev.

ok well its running alot better now but its still not quite right. I think the TPS is bad not sure. and the plugs r a mess but its fing cold outside I get up at 5am everyday. so goodnight
