hate to ask another timing question.....
Ever since I have owned my car I have checked my timing consistently, and it has always been dead-on...or at least I thought so. The guy that owned it before me painted two white marks that line up when you check timing, so I always figured this was where it was supposed to be. I was searching on here trying to diagnose an overheating problem, and I ran across a timing set procedure. This morning I went out and realized I could never read the actual #'s just trusted the marks. I cleaned off the plate with alcohol and turns out it is set at 0 degrees with the EST disconnected. Now....I am wondering what would this do to the way my car runs??? I have had various idle problems, which have pretty much cleared up, but the one problem that I have always had and have never figured out is that my cars seriously dies at upper rpms, as in it will not pull past 4300 rpms ever. Now, I don't know if this has anything to do with timing but either way what are the syptoms you guys have had when your timing has been set at 0 degrees instead of the rated 6* btdc????
Thanks for any help.
Jonathan

Setting the timing correctly may correct your over heating problem too.

Thanks guys that is what I thought...
I bought the car with that Hypertech chip in there, so I don't have a stock chip, oh well, the PR chip doesn't seem to be that bad.

One of the guys on the corvette forum is doing a leak down and asked how to make sure his pistons were at TDC, son response I posted.
If you want to take the time to verify that the mark on your harmonic dampner is correct there is a procedure to do it with the engine in the car.
I just posted the procedure on the http://forums.corvetteforum.com board in the C4 Tech section.
Just do a seach under my name - Jake - for my recent responses and it will come up.
I'd hate to have to type it all over again, but I will if you can't find it.
Let me know,
Jake

That actually crossed my mind-I wondered if the guy knew it was off and that is why he painted that white mark on there???? That would mean I would have it at about 12 degrees btc right now. I hope that is not what is going on....
