LT1 intake guys, please come in.

I ordered the LT4 hotcam today, got a good deal, my brother works at a Chevy dealer. This cam will go along with the Trick Flow 23* heads and 1.6 RRs I already have to put on. My plan is to go with a converted LT1 intake. I now heard on another forum here that this intake and all the associated wiring and everything looks like a rats nest when completed. I want it to look pretty good under the hood to go along with the performance. I have some $ invested in under the hood show parts, so I like to show them off, too. Anyone have some pics of your LT1 intakes installed neatly and looking good? How about the performance aspect? And finally, how does the setup I'm going with sound to some of you with more experience than me. Any and all opinions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a pretty good combo. I'm running the LT1 intake along with ported 180cc Iron Eagles and an XE262 cam. It seems to pull pretty well, but definatly needs some more tuning. Since you can't hide the wiring under the plenum anymore it does seem to be more of a mess, but so far I've taken some time and done some cutting and soldering of the wires to clean it up a bit. Theres still a bit that needs to be done however. My setup is a swap into a G-body, so the wiring may look a little different than the factory setup.

Do you have any pics? I would love to see it. I'm sort of an Olds man, too. I have an 80 Cutlass for a daily driver.

The wiring is only as good as it was before the conversion. The only wires that have to change are the CTS sensor re-location. No other changes are required wiring wise.

I have lots of pictures on my site of the completed swap.

I was waiting for you to chime in John. I've been asking you the questions the past couple weeks. I have the Trick Flows and the LT4 cam. I didn't really check out the pictures you're talking about, I'll have to do that. I'll probably be placing my order next week now that I've ordered my cam and I know which one I exactly have. Thanks for all your help.

What sort of fitment problems are you having? I'm just getting started on my temporary LT1 swap engine (on the stand) and would love to know of any more problems people are having.

As far as making it look good, keep everything in looms and route the coolant hoses at the rear of the intake if possible. I just ordered my -an fittings this morning for mine to class it up a bit...

I'm really only having a problem because i'm running sportsman II heads, and they have really large coolant passages, so the intake doesn't want to cover them up all the way. Most heads don't have a problem though. I'm also having a little problem with the bolt pattern that John drilled, but again, mainly because i'm running those heads. I'm having him send me one without the bolt pattern drilled so i can match it up exactly, there's not much room for error. My coolant passages are in the rear also, that's how John does all of them now. Looks neater IMO.

I had the same problem w the Dart II heads. But all I did was take the manifold to a machine shop to have them add flanges and the problem was corrected. When I did this conversion I did not know I was going to have the problem with the manifold not being wide enoungh. Problem solved.

383 I have a couple questions for you. I want to get the radiator hose like you have, do you know off hand what length yours is? Second, what is the sensor that is right behind the TB, opposite side of the cables? Thanks.

Thanks. I'll be running MAF, so I guess I won't be needing that. Did anything else go there when you had MAF? It looks like something does need to go there. And what should I look under on ebay for the coolant hose? Thanks again.

is there any way that the LT1 intake can be made smog legal? i really want to do this conversion but im in Cali and i need EGR, could a custom adapter be made?

i was thinking an adapter with a 90* bend to the driverside so an EGR can be still used. any thoughts or ideas?

It would be tough to make the LT1 intake conversion smog legal. In fact just because you rig an EGR valve to it doesn't mean it'll pass Calf smog.

Your idea about a 90° bend is fine but it would have to have two holes, the EGR valve itself has two holes.
Next you will need some way to route exhaust to the intake next to the EGR mount. This is because the LT1 ran external EGR, not internal like SBC's. The differance is in the heads.

In order to clean the engine compartment up on my modified LT4 intake, I bought some Corvette fuel rail covers. They are black plastic pieces that use four studs bolted to the intake to hold them in place. It covers the fuel rails, injectors and all the wiring down to the valve covers. It required some trimming of the back side of the pieces to clear the distributor and fuell lines but it looked much better.

Sadly, I have since totalled the car and am in the process of selling the whole thing. Luckily the motor is still ok but I never got a chance to get pics of it before the wreck. I have plenty of after pics but they are just too sad to post.
