Will swapping to an LT1 intake get me better gas mileage?
Will swapping to an LT1 intake get me better gas mileage?
Ok, heres the deal. I'm friggin tired of getting 10 mpg. I need better gas mileage if I'm going to keep this car as my daily driver..
My set-up now is :
Holley Stealth Ram
Stock TB
WP Sportsman II heads
24 lb SVO injectors
700R4 rebuilt w/ stock internals
All of the ignition system is new (stock parts, not any hi-po parts)
Any suggestions as to what I can do to better this?
BTW, I may be a heavy guy but my foots not.
Would I see any gains switching to an LT1 intake? I know people with LT1's getting 23-25 mpg on the highway and my setup isn't far off from a stock LT1 setup in my eyes.

I get 15 mpg city in my '86 Camaro with a 383 stroker running a LT1 intake conversion.
I'd say most of the mpg increase is in the prom tuning. Are you running a stock prom?

I have the summit 1103 cam (214/224 dur., .470 something lift, 112 LSA)
Custom chip with fuel injector constant changed for 24 lb injectors
Also has timing table for more timing up top
All sensors are brand new and I have no SES lights and no codes.

Another idea... You may also be able to drop your fuel pressure a few pounds to get you a few MPG, as long as the pressure change is within the ECU's adjustment limits set by the chip and ECU hardware. Main bet is still with the chip though.

That is terrible MPG, sounds like you are in 'limp home' mode causing you to run rich. I would check your MAF sensor to make sure everything is working properly. With a 350, hot cam, LT1 intake and 700r4 I am getting about 18 or so mpg on the e-way at 80+ mph.
