John Lingenfelter

If you don't all ready Know this is what I found on his web site: John did a lot for our TPI engines. Everyone with a super ram should know it was his design. He will be missed.

We are sad to announce that John Lingenfelter, founder of Lingenfelter Performance Engineering, passed away on December 25th, 2003. John had been in a semi-comatose state since November 2002 when he entered into a coma during surgery that was necessary due to a racing accident in Pomona, California in October 2002.

A special scholarship fund has been set up in memory of John Lingenfelter and will contribute to engineering students from Adams County high schools.

If you would like to contribute to this fund please make checks payable to:

Yeah, a shame at that too. I don't believe the fundamental philosophy behind his comapny will change - at least I hope it won't.

Doesn't sound like he had a fair time of it either - coma or partially so for a while. I just don't even like to think of a man like that caught it that state. Pretty sad.

But he did love what he did and racing - at least he was doing what he loved when the accident happened, not jsut driving around town, etc and having a wreck......

It was a 200mph tube chassis race car with a fiberglass body that was roughly in the shape of a cavalier.

I was going to make a sentence or two on his quote as well, but I just assumed he was joking.... lets hope so.

Yea, I was joking. But, if you do your research, you will also see that the Cavalier / sunfire platform has one of the highest injury / death ratings out of all the newer automobiles!

He wrecked pushing the envelope. Something he did his entire life. What he was driving is irrelevant.

In the end, it doesn't matter how someone dies. They're gone just the same. The only thing that I've ever found can give you any kind of solace is knowing how they lived their life, and that they did the most they could with the time they had.

Im sure that has to do with the drivers of these cars. most of them are highschool age girls who are more interested in attracting guys than getting to there destination safely. Trust me out of the two thousand girls at my school there were prolly 750 of them with Cavliers or Sunfires.

FWIW, in the video footage of the race in question, it sure looks to me like he hit the wall to avoid hitting the other driver's car. Now that's one hell of a competitor...
