Wanted-totally stock 350 TPI for testing LT1 intake

I am actively looking for someone that has a totally stock 350 TPI engine that is willing and able to dyno it for a baseline. I will provide a LT1 intake conversion for the volunteer to install and do a final dyno testing. Results will become my property (orginal dyno slips, before and after) and I will let the volunteer KEEP the intake.

The volunteer will be required to provide everything but the LT1 intake and fuel rails which I will provide. In other words he will be required to provide his own remote t-stat housing and plumb his own fuel lines. I will only provide the intake and fuel rails.

Volunteer must be able to prove good intentions on carrying out the contract. Parts will be provided in good faith, no upfront charges or holds on credit cards. I reserve the right to select the volunteer or deny them all based on feedback.

Sounds like a fun test.

I can offer you my car it is a 92 350 auto has only two things done to the motor SLP headers with factory cats and a Edelbrock base with stock runners on it. I can get Dyno numbers and have track times on it. One other thing I can do is a test with the stock AUJP and then a few runs and see what I can do with the Bin just for the intake.

How about a bone-stock 305?
I need something to put in this big gaping hole under the hood and i've been considering an LT1 intake whether i stick the 305 back in or get a 350.

I put you on my list Jerry. I will accept headers. I know the Edelbrock base isn't doing to much since your runners are still stock.

BTW Jerry, you were right about the RF noise and my Datamaster scans. The MSD filter fixed it.

I will do the same for a 305 at a later date.

I would require you to do a dyno run before for a baseline so the "gaping hole" would have to be filled with a stock TPI first.

LT1 test

I have an 89 IROC 350 TPI 700R4 2:77 bone sstock except for Hedman ceramic coated long tube headers. I would love to see the performance difference!

i have a 1991 trans am with the L98 in it. already have close to stock baseline numbers. i have hedman shorties on the way with a carsound cat but i can install them, do another baseline and then if you want me to, i will install the intake and get another set of numbers.

i have a shop close by that i can do dynoing at. it might also be interesting to dyno 2 L98 cars, one a MAF car and one a SD car just to see the differences. or even a camaro and a firebird and see the differences in intake routing.

I've got an '86 IROC Z28 with a stock TPI setup. The car is still an MAF system. The trans is a T56. The rear is a 10-bolt with 3.73s.

The engine has Edelbrock TES headers, deleted AIR system, 24 lbs/hr. Ford SVO injectors, a serpentine beltdrive conversion, and an adjustable fule pressure regulator. The exhaust is a Edelbrock Y-pipe, a gutted cat, a stock mid pipe, and a Dynomax muffler and tailpipes. I have a custom TPIS PROM.

The only downside to the "stock" situation, aside from what I've already mentioned, is that the engine (originally a 305) has been replaced with a Goodwrench 350. I know that the early TPI motors had small, non-roller cams anyway, but I don't know if this will blow the "stock" situation out of the water.

There is a chassis dyno place close to my house where I could do baseline and modified testing. Plus, I live reasonably close to Cecil County Dragway, where I drag race occassionally. It would be a nice addition to do back to back track testing too. Let me know what you think.

You're on the list TKO.

I have said I will allow headers. I also condier a Goodwrench engine "stock".

I'd do it in a heartbeat if Ca. would let me keep the intake on for emissions.

cool tread, nice job John with

marketing the LT1 manifold for the L98. Its a very nice option and I'd think real world dyno numbers would really help you sell more LT1 conversion.

keep us updated

Funny, you are so wrong. Sorry to say that yes, there were only a few replies to this offer and no, I did not receive hundreds of e-mail, not even dozens of e-mail. I only received a FEW e-mails.

Only one stood out from the rest because of his experience, knowledge, ability and access to test equipment to carry out this project. His name is Tom Krapf (TKOPerformance). Congratulations Tom.

John -

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I have been following this forum for a long time, but never registered.... until now!

Like many TPI owners, I have been looking to change my intake.
But as you all know, there is so much marketing crap and unsubstantiated claims running around the auto industry. (I have worked in the auto industry for years, so its OK to take a couple swipes)

I want to applaud your efforts to bring some science and good intent to the auto aftermarket. Let's hope its the start of a trend.
If results are positive, you definitely have a customer here.

I would also be interested in seeing a step-by-step dyno tracking of L98 mods. i.e. LT1 intake, then common cams changes (ZZ4, HOT cam, 219 cam), etc...

Looking forward to results,

-Z

I plan on getting before and after dynos this spring for my 305, but I'm not quite stock either. Budget minded mods are going on at the same time too though, so any before testing mods may be negated by the new mods.

Cam swap (something similar to ZZ4, hot cam, SLP cam, etc), torque converter stall up to 24-2600, custom CAI and filter will all be on at the time of the LT1 swap.

I already have my LT1 intake, rails, etc and will be adding headers at the time of the engine swap. I'll provide you with all before/after dyno pulls for sending me a machined distributor adapter. Everything else will be accomplished *in house*.

Seems to fit right in to your "later date" time schedule. The Midwest gathering in June is when I had planned on dynoing the new combination. I have a few questions I'd like to ask if you're interested in this *almost stock* vehicle. Email me at bnmotorsports@msn.com if you have anything to ask me.

Add me to the list. I have a STONE stock L98 that still runs 14.25@95, has been well kept and would be perfect for this.

The dyno is 20 miles from here. I have wanted an excuse to dyno it 100% stock.

Edit: Im too late But if you decide on a TOTALLY stock one, Im always avaliable

If I was in the area I would volunteer. My 89 IROC is a completely stock L98 with 114k miles but still running strong.

Glad to see more interested TPI'ers. I hope everyone has read the whole thread. They already have a test car lined up. I just found this thread. I decided to add to it instead of starting another. Hopefully one of the LT1 Intake guys will see it and post. Here's hoping we hear from John(LT1Intakes.com).

Do it. I love my LT1 intake. John is a great guy to work with. I can feel a difference in throttle response, and acceleration.

if you're still looking for someone to test with, i have a good friend with a solid, well maintained, bone stock 92 TPI350.

we're about to mod it... but if you want to do this test, i can give you his contact info and you can see if he wants to do it.

Well, Tom (TKOperformance) never followed through with the deal. He had too many problems.

I still need a stock 350 that can do before and after dynos for me (TPI and LT1 intake). I will of course provide the LT1 intake. I am not going to be willing to wait all summer for the swap and dynos to happen. I prefer someone local but will consider other states too.

I prefer applicants to e-mail me to be considered. john@lt1intake.com

John and I sorted this out. My schedule has just become too busy since I initially volunteered to help him undertake this test. It's just been too hard to get down to the track and dyno with my current responsibilities.

I appologize to the TGO members who I know are eager to see the results of this test. I've got to pass on the project to someone who will be able to get it done in a more timely fashion.

Regrets that I couldn't make it happen. I look forward to seeing the results.

Well hell, since I reconverted my IROC back to near factory for emissions, I too emailed John...if the conversion is a weekend thing, then hopefully we can have results (assuming John agrees) within the next couple of weeks.

I was reeeeeeaaallyy hoping TKO would get the info up, as I have several mild project engines that I'm intake-shopping for,the LT1 was on the list due to drivability and cost, HSR was the other, but I've seen dismal results on mild engine combos with the HSR.
