Idle misfire might be gone for good this time!! This is nuts!

I took off my throttle body today to do a little cleaning on it. Well, I was looking at it and decided to siamse the throttle body gasket bores to match the intake flange on the MiniRam. While I was doing that, my dad was comparing by charcoal cannister setup vs his Camaro. We decided to blow compressed air through the fuel tank vent line to see if it was plugged. Air blew through, so I figured it was fine. Put everything back together and boom, the idle smoothed out immediately!!

If either of these solved the problem, what was the mechanism for the failure??? How would a plugged vent line give me a misfire? Or for that matter, having a non-siamesed gasket? I looked at the old gasket (which I've replaced before) and there were no signs of a vacuum leak anywhere. I'm confused, but glad this thing is over finally.

HEY ULTM8Z glad to see you got the problem figured out. I've ran into you a few times in the 2nd gen board (aka Cold Z28). I just picked up a tuned port car my self so I guess I will be playing with that when it get's here. I bought it in Florida. I just joined this board so I will be posting in the future. Gotta get the turbo T/A done first.

Cool deal! Glad to see a fellow 2nd genner over here.

This board is awesome for thirdgen stuff. SO much information on fuel injection.

I know. I wish it had been around when I had my first third gen back in the mid 90's. It's like having a bunch of pre-testers. It's great. Nnow I have an Idea of what to buy and what not to buy.

Did the gasket cover anything before you siamesed it?

No. That's the thing. The opening on the intake manifold is wide open too. So there was nothing for the throttle body to compress the gasket against. I'm guessing it was more to do with blowing out the vent line.

Well, I am glad to hear you got it running better. I have had a few of those phantom problems, and then the subsequent phantom fixes over the years, PITA. Good luck in the future with your car...

My 88 Formula has that same misfire at idle. Seems to run great while driving. I'll blow air through the vent line and see what happens with my car.
