I'm considering buying some of these from a friend of mine, but I've noticed that SDPC has stopped producing them. I was curious why? I don't want to buy them if the modded ones have a bad rep or something.

Hmm, Do you have a link? goto sdpc2000.com and search for this: SD8060 I shows theey are discontinued to me.
