LT4 hotcam legal in CA???

Well I was thinking about a cam swap sometime this season and I had a couple in mind. The ZZ4 and the LT4 HC. Anyone have experience with either? Or any other nice cam selections. This is not a super high peformance build or anything. I'm just looking for some more power, nothing CRAZY. Thanks fellas

i dont think you will have problems with the hott cam passing a sniffer test,i would convert your o2 sensor to a heated style..

I just barely slid by here in Indiana, you would think California's sniffer is more strict but I cannot verify that. The hotcam isn't a great choice for an otherwise stock car, the zz4 like mentioned or maybe a production LT4 cam.

I passed cleaner than my next to stock 91 GTA in my hotcammed/headered/heads/converter 91Formula :-)

That was on the roller dyno emissions testing here in IN

Proper tuning with some timing pulled out and it set up to run a lil leaner than usual (heat soak it long enuff does that) and iot will walk right thru if tuned decently and all emissions stuff intact(mine is egr delete)
later

Really, thats awesome. Well I hadn't planned on just doing a cam for the hell of it and leaving the motor stock, headers, full catback, and alot of intake work are in order as well. I wish I could get some Cali guys to gimme some input, but here in Cali we have smog 2 which is the roller dyno type too. Thanks guys

You'd need to do something for the EGR if you are going with the ZZ4 longblock. Other than that, it should be fine. There's a guy on these boards with a ZZ4 type of setup with the LT4 Hot Cam in CA, and passes. He has a vette type of EGR setup. Or you can use heads with heat risers instead of the ZZ4/L98 Aluminum heads.

I've been told that you have to change the torque converter if you plan to run the HOT cam in an automatic. Were you planning to do that?

No not really, do you know why that would be? I have a brand new tranny in there with a mild shift kit and would hate to take it apart again, but then again if my car is gonna be down for a good enough period of time I might just get a better stall.

You're probably thinking of me. My 350 engine with an LT4 HOT cam and Corvette L98 heads passed the CA sniffer test with no problems. It passed by less than half of the allowed limits. That was November 2002, so I'll have to check it again this November.
