Help with build-up

Need help choosing head to match setup. I am going to call comp cams for the cam.

Engine: 88 L98 with cast iron heads

Intake: TPIS Big Mouth, SLP siamessed runners, ported plenum

Exhaust: Edelbrock headers

Transmission: 700R4

1) L98 aluminum heads -
I can get these for $400, they are completely stock, but I would have them ported.

2) Dart Iron Eagle -
These seem to be the best smaller cc, it will match the intake system will well. $900 from Summit.

I am trying to stay under $1,000 for the heads. Any other heads that I should consider, let me know.

Thanks

I think that the 195s will be a little too large for the LTR system, won't they?

I'd go with the L98s and port them yourself. A porting kit is like $45 and a cheap air die grinder is like $25. The rest if your time, which doesn't cost a thing.

Port the aluminum L98s, take your time and be patient and they will flow great! Better than out of the box DARTs for half the money and you'll learn (shiiiiiiiat)

Cool thanks guys. I was just reading in a Chevy Hi Performance book and they were really speaking poorly of the Aluminum L98 heads, and said "only get them if they are cheap".

They seemed to love to head types, Vortec and AFR 180 & 190. I get tired of reading that part of the book because they can't repeat enough.

The Vortec heads are amazing, and I would definately run them over the L98 aluminum heads if cost wasn't a factor. The problem is that you need a $400 lower intake to run the TPI on the Vortecs.

Especially at low lifts a stock set of Vortecs will outflow GM Bow Tie heads. With a little port work there's little to touch the Vortec as a street head except fof the AFRs.
