code 42 help please

I am fixing up my formula so that I can sell it and I need to fix a code problem. It is a '92 with the 305TPI/5spd. It will produce a code 42 just seconds after starting. while the light is on the engine is weak and stumbles. It runs, but very crappy power. It usually goes off in about 2-3 miles of driving and then it will run smooth and with normal amounts of power. The info I can find says that the code 42 is either a low voltage at the ESC module OR knock sensor. How can I single out which one it is? Does someone know which wire and what voltage the ESC module is supposed to have? How can I test knock sensor? any help would be great. Thanks alot.
