Where to buy GAS TANK????

I have posted this once before, but I was wondering if anyone else knows where I can get a tank for my car for under $200? Autozone no longer carries them and NAPA can order me one, but for $200, and it will take a week or so. Any where else you guys know of???? And BTW, I don't want a used one...

Thanks.

Check with the factory, however, the $200 limit may not be in effect. You could get an LS1 baffled fuel tank that way.... I think it's a little bigger as well.

This shows it like it is available, but when you click add to cart it wont work. I would get the tank from NAPA. I think they are pretty expensive from GM.

Yeah, Napa seems to be the cheapest around. The rubber on the straps that hold the tank up are pretty chewed up, I think this is what caused the hole(s) in my tank. Can I replace the rubber part with something else? GasTanks.com sells straps, but they don't come with the rubber part? Any ideas.

Thanks again for any help.

To cause a hole in the tank, the straps would have to be lose enough where the tank could move around. I've never ran across this problem when working on tanks. Just students jacking up my Camino in the rear by the tank.

One idea would be to coat the straps by using a spray-on plastic dip/coat. This would give the straps a barrer to keep from rubbing holes into the tanks.

I used some foam rubber stuff that is supposed to go between pickup truck toppers and the top edge of the bed. It is about 1/4 of an inch thick and a little wider than the strap so it worked very well. It also has adhesive on one side so you can stick it to the strap and it will stay in place while you are putting the straps on. I got it at Autozone for about $10 (maybe not even that much).

You could put a layer of Silicone on the straps just before you raise the tank. They would act as a cushion and keep the tank from moving. Another option is self sticking foam weatherstripping...

That is pretty much what I was talking about. But I could not think of what it was called. I think it even says weatherstripping on the package.

Your best bet is to buy a new one. Make sure it is one of the newer "Baffled" style that will prevent the dreaded stalling when turning with less than a 1/4 tank.

My car used to do that. When I had the fuel pump replaced, the guy extended the pickup tube off the bottom of the pump or lowered the pump and it doesn't do it anymore. Been too long ago to remember the specifics. I do remember how annoying that was with the bog thing. I was seriously considering going to a 1LE gas tank to eliminate the problem....

I wish I could find a 1LE tank...

1Aauto on ebay offers a replacement efi 3rd gen tank for 229.95 I believe. It is 14 gallons which makes me wonder if they removed a gallon of capacity to make the install easier. I cannot think of another reason why they would make it smaller otherwise.

Does anyone know if a LS1 tank would fit into a 3rd gen without any major modding!?!

I am assuming the one I ordered from NAPA Monday is baffled, since my old one was....it was $220 after special shipping charges and tax. I will hopefully get it Friday. I already got my fuel pump. I ordered it from Auto Performance Engineering ($97 shipped for a walbro 255!), and I guess I will figure out what to use for tank strap "padding" when I start the install. Thanks for all the help, guys.

Can someone confirm that the 90-92 tanks were baffled? If so would one of these fit in a 82-89 car? Seems like it would?!?! I would like to do this very much...
