stupid question of the day-

i bought a tpi unit (computer and all of the intake) from the junk yard from a camaro that had a 350 in it. i ran the vin number on the car later and found that the computer was from a 305 car. is there any difference in the computer besides the programming on a 305 and 350 computer assuming both are maf? the reason i am asking is because i was debating on building a 383 but i didnt know if i would have to get a different computer. i know that i will have to have the chip re-burned either way but i just didnt know if the chip from a 305 could be burned to work on a 350/383

 

The ECM should be fine. Look up the service number. I pulled a spare ECM for my Formula out of a Blazer 4-cyl. Chucked the PROM, and it works fine. If the ECM service number matches than you just need the PROM.

 

The ecms on the 86-89 are the some just diff. injector sizes like 305 has 19# injectors and 350 usually has 22# injectors. you dont even have to change prom if you dont want . if the ecm is a 305 so where the injectors so if yo want cheap injectors go to slp they have 24# injectors for $100
