performance parts for 305

ive just started learning about cars in general and my 91 Z is my first car, so i was wondering what i could do to my car to get a lil more performance out of it...hell if a mach 1 can get 305 horses out of a 4.6 litre engine surely i can get just as much out of mine.

first off welcome to the boards. secondly lets start with what kind of car you have, how many miles are on it, and what you've done so far. Once we've determined that you can start considering what you would like to do to your car.

first if you have just bought this car and don't know much about its history, the best thing you could do for it would be to perform a full tuneup. A tuneup includes many things so you should either replace or check at least the following:
oil change with new filter
air filter
fuel filter
spark plugs
plug wires
distributor cap/rotor
ignition coil
and i'm sure theres more but i'm going blank for a few. anyways this is a decent list to get you started with your new 305. Also might as well check what codes your car is throwing and use these boards as a reference to help solve the problem with any possible codes.

once youv'e got your car running properly, theres numerous things you can do to get more power. tehres always that never ending debate about swapping in a 350 because its cheaper in the long run but i'll leave that for others to tell you about. anyways IMO best place to start is exhaust, a good set of headers and catback will definitely improve your performance as well as sound of the car. Also subframe connectors come highly recommended by members on this board due to the unibody design of our thirdgens. the SFC's come relatively cheap and greatly strengthen the chassis of our cars.

also don't forget about the free mods like porting all your tpi equipment including plenum, runners, and base. although this won't gain you much since there isnt too much meat on these parts to work with, it'll at least grab you a few more until you decide to do something else with teh induction system in terms of replacing it with a better flowing one.

all in all theres tons of things that be done ranging from the simplest of things such as porting your tpi to nitrous or even head/cam swap etc. Provide a little more information including what you have, how much you want to spend realistically, and what kind of power you're looking at achieving.

if money and time really aren't a problem my personal opinion would be to definitely go with a 350. But like I said thats MY opinion, if you are sure that you want to stick with the 305 then thats your opinion. Also as mentioned run some searches, you'll find a ton of useful information concerning this topic as well as some more information on the 305 vs 350 swap debate.
