please help... idle/throttle problem
here's the problem;
car won't idle under 1500rpm, and hangs between 1500 and 2000rpm. no vaccum leaks that i can find, and when i remove a vaccum line it surges even higher (as it should to compensate for low vaccum).
when i lightly open the throttle, it hesitates, and will die if i leave it slightly open. when i crank it right open (wot) it will rev right up.
today, i tried unplugging the maf while it was running and NOTHING happened! wtf? i thought that when a maf is unplugged, it will go into a limp mode. is what my car is doing an example of this mode?
i have replaced my iac, my tps, all the gaskets in the tb, and i have thoroughly cleaned the tb out. i have also replaced a number of the vaccum lines, just as a precaution.
is this just a problem caused by my bad maf, or is it a sign of something else? i am getting tired of the "buy this sensor, it might be it" game. i am unemployed and can't really afford it, or the bill i would get at a garage. any help from you folks would be GREATLY appreciated... thank you

Hello Jason,
Welcome to the board. a couple of quick questions here, what year and model car do you have and what size engine is in it. You said you changed the TPS, what voltage did you adjust it too?

well i get the dumb-*** award today..
85 iroc, tuned port 305
i didn't adjust the tps, i put it in the same position as the original one was. where do i measure the output voltage so as to properly adjust it?

well, with your aid i have now got a properly calibrated tps. still, this wasn't the problem. the issue resides in the male connector that goes into the maf sensor. when i started screwing with this, i discovered that when i push the wires up, the engine stalled. when i simply moved the wires around, the idle dropped back down to where it should be. finally, the culprit has been revealed.
question: where do i find a diagram that explains how to dismantle this plug? i don't want to break it, it is discontinued at the dealership, and if i get a junkyard plug it may have the same issues. i would much rather put new wires and terminals in it.
thanks, i greatly appreciate it!
