RamJet 350 Distributor...what's different?

I ordered the RamJet 350 intake manifold kit today and noticed that the distributor it comes with has a part number that is only for the RamJet system. What's so different with this distributor that it was not used with any other GM motor?

I won't be installing the RamJet intake in a vehicle. I'm currently making new TPI wiring harnesses and am going to start making a RamJet 350 fuel injection harness for the 1227730 ECM.

what i was TOLD (and this is UNVERIFIED) is that the ramjet ECM and distrib were orignally marine parts.. not automotive... so they came from Mercruiser...

like i said though, thats just somthing i heard thru someone else, so it could be totally wrong... it is a explaination though.

That could be the reason. The first things that came to my mind were that maybe the intake manifold height was different and the distributor was longer/shorter. Or maybe the cam gear is different. The ignition module looks the same.

Thanks, MrDude_1. Anyone else have some ideas?

im sure john at LT1intakes has carefully measured the height of the distrib on SBCs... you might want to email/PM him and ask him what the standard measurement is.

I don't think the ramjet has an ESC unit. Maybe that has something to do with it. The ECM, at least, is indeed a marine part. Wouldn't suprise me if others were also. Regardless, keep all your Thirdgen buds over here posted on the in and outs of getting a 730 to work with the RJ manifold. I am sure alot of folks would find it very interesting, I know I would at least.

I'll compare the RamJet distributor to the TPI distributor when I get it. Should be here later this week. I know John is probably busy.

I'll definitely keep everyone updated. I should be able to put together a system for half the cost of what GM offers. AND since the RamJet ECM is nearly $600. It might be more attractive to use the 1227730 since you can get those all day long in a bone yard for $35.00 or less. I'd hate to own the RamJet ECM and have it go bad on me.

The ESC module doesn't make a difference. The MAF setup uses a ESC module and the small HEI distributor. You can take that same distributor and use it with the speed density system that does not have the ESC module (the ESC function is in the memcal).

Sorry to bring an old post from the dead, but I was trying to found out the same thing. Is there anything special/different about the Ramjet distributor?

I've tried looking into various sources, but they all say the same thing word for word.

S10Wildside, I looked through another of your Ramjet related posts thats relative old, and you mentioned the only difference you noticed between the two distributors was the distributor gear color. Stock was black, and the Ramjet's is silver/grey. I suppose that means the gears are different materials. Did you find out anything else regarding this issue?

Never found out anything new about it. I'm still curious about the differences (if any).
