Stealth ram and Pro Toplines on a 350 - who's got it?

I'm thinking about this combo for my car if I ever find a couple extra bucks. The lackluster performance of my car is irritating me and it's time to do something about it. I'm going to give up on doing my own chip tuning and take it to somebody who knows what he's doing... but as long as I'm going to pay that money, I might as well have better equipment to start with.

Anyway... I searched and found a couple people with this combo, but the only person who posted times was running 14s back in October.

Has anybody done this combo with good results? What size heads (200 or 180s) and what cam do you have?

Right now I'm leaning toward getting the 180s and running them with my SLP runners & accel base for a while, then going to the stealth ram later. Any opinions on that?

I haven't seen anyone running that combo, mainly other heads such as AFR and ported TrickFlows.

I'm looking at the stealth ram because I'm a cheap bastard. That's also why I'm looking at the pro toplines. It seems like an affordable combo, although it seems like the more I read about the pro toplines, the less of a deal they sound like. They seem to have "optimistic" flow numbers below .400

I recently read a post where a person who worked in a shop and test flows a lot of heads. He stated that the AFR's and the Trickflows flowed pretty much as advertised. He could not say that for some of the others.

I know of someone who just recently bought some Pro-Toplines. He had to do some extra work out of the box. I would say with a little work they will be just fine. I bought some Trickflows and they look good right out of the box. Also Dyno Don just bought some Edelbrock 200cc Etec's for his new buildup. They also looked real good right out of the box. Allen

Okay I just happen to have this combo.

I can tell you that with my old 416 casting heads, 355, XE262 cam(218/224 @.050, .5lift with 1.6 rockers, 114lsa), and TPI I ran 14.0 @ 97mph 2.0-60ft. That was with fouled plugs and a trans that was on it's way out stock stall.

Put on Pro 200cc Irons, the HSR. Same block/cam/transmission.
Ran a best 14.1 @ 97mph.

Installed TH350 with a 2400 converter that died 3 days after the race, 28psi fuel pressure (don't ask) ran a best of 13.7@101.

After getting the converter/fuel pressure sorted out. Now 3000rpm stall, 42psi....which felt MUCH better I might add... I ran on a dyno and with a relatively descent fuel curve put down 250HP and 320lb ft to the wheels. Opened the cutout and put down 264/333. This peak was at like 62-6300rpm. Cam only goes to 5500rpm (Intake wants bigger cam)

Did a leakdown test there after and found I had a ring or two not seating.... as well as air leaking through the exhaust ports on the heads.

Decide to rebuild the engine (didn't have it balanced, align honed, still had stock bolts, last time) Pro heads had 4000miles on them at this time.

Exhaust Valve guides shot, on one head there were two hairline cracks between the intake and exhaust valves on I forget which cyl.

So After a balance, rod rebuild(bolts/polish), align hone, sfi balancer, flexplate... New exhaust guides, ground for two new seals, new seals in the heads....decide to go with a Custom Lunati Solid Tappet camshaft.

Cam is now a 239/247 @.050, .544/.566 lift, 112lsa. I can tell you it pulls ALOT harder after 3500-4000rpm. It seems to have the same torque peak up high and maybe a little less bottom end, but thats nill.

I have yet to be back at the track as my ecm or something there abouts took a big crap on me.

The 180CC pros do not flow anywhere near advertised. The 200cc flowed pretty close to advertised. I would never buy pro topline heads again. They were great but as the plant started to go out of business quality went down the crapper. I didn't think you could get them anymore because the facility is shut down.

Plan your cam in accordance to the heads you do get and the intake. I could have gone with a bigger cam, but I wanted a slim chance at passing emissions.

NO use at all putting the HSR on if you don't have the cam to go with the heads/intake.

I am hoping for a dip into the 11's with drag radials when I get the commander 950 installed.

BTW don't get the 180s just to run with tpi, get the 200cc.
