my perssonal opinion is just get new ones.....You have to take them out to get the cam out and back in why not just replace them?

Roller lifters? Don't need to replace them unless you are going radical. As you said, no apparent damage, you can throw them back in. They are nothing like flat tappet lifters in that regard.

If you know yours work, you can keep them. Might be better to replace if you can see uneven wear patterns on them, though, but they typically don't wear much.

Thinking new=good IMO is wishful thinking.

I never replace known good components with "new" just because I'm in there. At least with "used" lifters, you *know* they work!

No offense to anyone, just my opinion based on watching so many people have problems with "new" parts. You can't get much better than OEM on most stuff, at least before they started farming replacement stuff out to Taiwan.

For OEM being better, witness comps roller retrofit lifters...no prolonged idle?? I don't recall that in GM's literature.

Re: reusing lifters?

I'm new to the site, but from what I've heard if you are going to reuse the hyd. rollers you have to bleed the oil out??? Is that correct?

Re: reusing lifters?

No reason that is NECESSARY, but perhaps whoever said that means to do so to make sure they are clean internally? Dunno.

Re: reusing lifters?

On the several stock/semi-stock engine builds i've done i've always re-used them.
I soak 'em in gas and then swish 'em around. Let 'em dry. Then soak 'em in oil for a couple of days before re-installing them.
No problems yet.
The odds are in your favor.
