You don't have any MAF screens to remove, only on 85-89 cars
free / close to free mods are timing bump and coolant throttle body bypass. shaving weight off the car.
cheap mods: throttle body airfoil, high flow air filter (or a homemade cold air intake). fuel pressure regulator.

Does the tb coolant bypass have any noticeable effect? And is there a way to make the stock TPI fpr adjustable like you can do on the TBI models?

if you don't have emissions to worry about, then remove the cats and all of the AIR system, delete the EGR, 180* t-stat.
sorry to jack your thread, but does anyone have a more detailed picture of how to do the TB bypass? the pic in the tech article is kind of confusing and hard to understand.

When I did my throttle body by-pass, I just used a molded heater hose that had a 90 degree bend. Just be careful with the heater valve. They become brittle with age and could burst.

throttle body bypass is easy. Go to the auto store and get a 3/8" hose coupler.
Disconnect the coolant lines from the thottle body on the passanger side, and on the bottom of the TB. Connect the hoses with the coupler and tighten the clamps that should already be on the hoses. Once you look at it in person it will be clear.
You can also just get a 8-10" piece of hose and connect the heater valve thing-a-majig, to the coolant nipple on the manifold.

MDFormula350...which of the ports on the bottom of the TB does the hose need to be connected to when doing the TB Coolant Bypass? I know one end of it hooks to the heater control valve, but am not sure on which of the other 2 ports to use. Thanks for the pic and all the help.

Do you still have, or at least remember, the U-shaped hose that went from the front of the intake manifold up to the lower front of the throttle body? The coolant direction is OUT from the lower fitting(intake manifold) and up INto the throttle body fitting, then OUT of the passenger side throttle body hose fitting and INto the heater valve.
Pull the U-shaped hose, if you haven't already, and pull the hose from the side of the throttle body to the heater valve. Then connect your new hose from the intake fitting straight to the heater valve. So there will end up being no coolant hoses connected to the throttle body when you're finished.

Take it easy, its what everyone says to people here who don't know how to search. It always works, you just have to know what you're looking for, and if you don't, its "your" problem, hence the "personal" problem.
Anyways, where can one pick up this hose with the 90* bend in it? I want to do this mod, more or less just so I have one less connection to the throttle body to worry about when I remove it to clean it and install my LT1 intake when it arrives

You can get them at any parts store (though you might have to walk back and get it yourself after the parts monkey looks at you funny for asking for a piece of 5/8" heater hose with a molded 90* bend).. Usually they'll have ones with about a foot of straight hose after the bend and you can just cut to fit...

search button sucks on this board. Too many stupid, irrelevant posts to dig through.
All you need to do to bypass the TB is pull the U-shaped hose off of the intake and TB......now throw it away. Next, take the coolant hose off of the side of the TB but leave the other end on the HCV. Now find a hose to bridge the gap between the intake manifold and the hose coming off of the HCV. Very simple 10 minute job with no rocket science involved.
