i have a used 224/230 XE comp cam out of my old car.
would it be to big for a TBI 305 that im converting to a turbo TPI w/ a 7749 ecu?
th350(3500 stall) and 3.42s

That would depend on the lobe centers, total lift, what type of turbo, what headers, etc.
For instance, my 224/224 .465/.465 cam with 114* lobe separation didn't work to well without extensive MAF table rebilding. With the 7749 you would be rebuilding the VE tables... even without throwing a turbo into the mix. If you are on a 112* separation, it gets worse for a turbo car... My guess is that if you are indeed going turbo, that cam would have to much duration/overlap to get effective spool times on the smallish 305.

Way to big for a t305 unless you want to go to 7k.
Try a xe 257/257 ish @ 112. They have a number of different lifts in that duration range to match your heads.
A stock cam would probably work well in a 305 too if your going cheap.
