Old & new to TPi 3rd gens, need help

I used to own 3 3rdgens. My favorite being my 85 350tpi <---had the block replaced. I never got around to modding it but it was fast in relation to what I was stomping with it.

I'm looking at buying another one real soon. I want either a 5spd 5.0 or the 5.7 GTA. What mods will get me reliable mid to low 13's? Is under $1500 feasible if I do my own work? Here's what I'm thinking:

1) SLP dual intake (if it's a SD car) regular if it's a MAF car. Reason for SLP I want to maintain factory look

2)1.6 rockers, or is it not worth it? <I'm new to these sort of things on fbodies. My GTP, they knock of 3 tenths easy. Is that the case for 3rd gens?

3) SLP headers. Again, keeping with the factory, in a way.

4) cutout by the rear pass. wheel

5) SLP siamesed plenum, or can I my stockers a bit with a rotary tool for similar gains? Are these good 1st mods behind a nice tune up? Are there easier ways to get more power? What about those SLP siamesed runners?

I don't want to go to crazy, just because I know what happens. Spend alot of money for alot of frustration.

Thanks guys, I've done a search but every post switches topics so fast it's hard to decipher what's being talked about after 8 meaningless posts.

I agree the Hookers are great headers. But when it comes down to it, the SLPs can be cheaper. The hookers are about $360 the last time i checked, and they really need to be coated or they WILL rust very soon. The SLPs are $400 and if on a budget don't have to be coated because they are stainless steel. Of course if you need AIR the SLPs are around $500, the hookers plus ceramic coating are $500ish. Heres what i'd do. If you need AIR go with the coated Hookers, if you don't need AIr go with the SLPs.

Yeah, thanks for reminding me. What is A.I.R.? Does it have to do with A/C? Forgive my naiivness, for I'm use to GTP headers which are just headers and have nothing to do with A/C. All the header companies need to know if it has A.I.R. If it does have to do with a/c, why don't they just say 'Cars eqipped with a/c get these, if not get these instead'?

No flames please.

Also, how much would headers, sfc's, intake, and cutout drop in the 1/4 with consistant launching and tuning? Is 1 full second feasible?

Thanks.

A.I.R. Is part of the emissions equiptment. If you live in an area with a visual emissions inspections, you need headers equipt with A.I.R. (air injection recirculation)

AIR headers:

Aaahhhhh!!! Then it is kind of like our EGR system, (Exhuast Gas Recirculation System).

Thank you. Now does anyone know if AZ is one of those AIR states?

Check will arizona department of transportation. FYI thirdgens also have a seperate EGR system. The EGR valve is the gold 'UFO' under the plenum.

Ok, sorry to ressurect this thread, but I've got some new questions that ya'll might answer by the time I've searched through the archives....

As I've said before, I'm looking for a GTA. I've found one that I need to see in person, it's an 88 5spd GTA. I'm pretty sure it's 100% stock. First, I'll get it running good again. Once that happens, I'd like to get a bone stock run at the track this winter...but back to subject.

I'd like to mod it. I've been reading up on the LT1 swaps for the L98. Would similar gains happen for a 5.0? I'd like to do a cam as well, would the Lt1 cam or equivalent do good? I don't want something crazy and too costly. How much is an LT1 intake, do I need a PROM burnt, or will it be fine?

Another question, would SFC help out too? I read that L98's times improve very nicely with these things, due to the extreme amounts of torque they unleash at launches. 5.0's are less, but would they benefit or should I look into other mods 1st?

And last question for this post, can the stock rear end hold up with slicks? I'd hate to break something like that.

Thanks.
