Hot Cam in l98 problems

I just had my engine rebuilt and put a hot cam in it. The problem is, it runs like a slug.I can't even spin the tires when I mat it.
I have put the timing at 6 and 8 degrees and there is no difference.
One thing I noticed is it is running really rich.
Any suggestions?

Tuning?

No major mod will show it's true potential without appropriate tuning. Cams and heads especially will change the needs of the engine. With that particular cam, you'll also notice a fair gain from a higher-stall torque converter, and deeper gears if you don't have them already.

what he said... i'm getting ready to put that same cam in my L98, and stall was the first thing to come up on the subject. i was told that i would need a 2400-2700 stall. did you have anything done to your trans at all? mine's being rebuilt "corvette style" plus adding another cooler to it. won't know what all this is gonna do for a few more weeks, but i'm just sharing with you what was told to me. i was also told that a converter from a '94 S-10 would make for a real nice launch with my set-up... supposedly has about a 2200 stall. not sure if i'm gonna go that route yet. news ay 11 if i do.

I'm going to take it to a shop to have it tuned properly. The trans is stock and I'm running 3.27 rear gears.
Is the 94 s10 converter the same size? And is that out of a v6 or 4cyl?

stock, out of a V-6. same size. you probably need to consider another trans cooler, too. a higher stall is gonna produce even more heat.
