Repalced the MAF parts - still have problems - Please Help!

After putting on a reman MAF - the car would barely run - surging real hard and not drivable. Replaced the MAF power relay - no change. Replaced the Burn off relay - the surging went away. Now that the car finnaly idles well - better than it ever has - I still have a hesitation or a stumble between 3000 and 4000 rpms. The car feels like it is cutting out - then above 4000 rpm the power comes back. The low power band feels more stable than ever - 3000 and below but not as punchy as the old maf that had the screens replaced and threw codes. What could be causing this?

Also - unplugged the EGR - no fix

The voltage of the TPS .54

THe drop out is at WOT

Cleared the codes with snap on reader - no fix

Any info would help.

Thanks

If the reman sensor is an a-1 Cardone unit I would suspect it to be at fault. I went thru 5 units before I finally got a good one. If you have a friend with a sensor off an f-body or a vette, and you know it to be good, swap it and try it.

Actually the reman is a Bosch jsut like th one I took off of the car. I have not thought of the reman being faulty.

Thanks for the replies - I am going to check the ignition and fuel pressure tomarrow. I have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator on the car now that TPIS sold me.

I called about the Wells Maf today and talked to a guy who works at a parts store in Buffalo NY. He said that in his opinion the wells MAF is not any more impressive or helpful than any reman MAF they sell and did not know why I would think other wise. I wondered if I had the right part or if he knew what he was talking about. Any more insight about this?

He is basically correct. The "advantage" of the Wells MAF is that it is cheaper than buying a Bosch unit out right. But it is usually cheaper to get a Bosch unit on exchange (about $10-$20 cheaper). Also the Bosch unit has a larger housing which will allow more flow (if your engine has a demand for higher flow).
As long as the Bosch remaned MAF was done right it will be just as good (or better) than the Wells one.

The Wells MAF has no filament, is more durable and has more airflow potential as the inner diameter is 8mm larger and less obstruction (ie 700+ cfm v. 500+ cfm). How is that not better than the tempermental Bosch unit?

Do a search for wells or su145 and Vader or Red Devil and go back a ways. Probably want to read a few threads to get the overall jist of it. I got to speak with one of the engineers over at Wells that worked on it. It was designed with the 'bonuses' deliberately.

Actually the wells MAF does have a filament, in the form of a freq film instead of a heated wire.

Always was told it was a temperature sensing resistor. In either case, it is not the fragile filament stretched precariously out in the open as the hot-wire MAF. You knew what I meant.
