HELP! need advice
ok...
Im lookin at buying my 91 Camaro Z28 soon...hopefully within a few weeks. The one i got lined up...well, let me just list it out...
-91' Camaro Z-28. Black. pretty cllean body.
-Grey leather interior. few minor tears.
-Originally a 305TPI. now, a 350 stripped of its Tuned port injectors running a carb. The 350 has 3,000 miles on it after rebuild.
-Richmond 5 speed transmission, 17,000 miles of usage.
-No A/C. whatsoever.
-No tuned port injectors, which I plan on putting in. I like TPI more than carb.
-sturdy clutch, flywheel, brakes, so on.
-Fuel injectors need to be reinstalled. no biggy there.
-Currently doesnt run. 125,000 miles on the body.
From the description, is it worth 13oo buckaroos?
And my next question...how hard is it to reinstall the TPI on a 350 motor?
EDIT: Also, can i get an estimated price on A/C for a 91 camaro, and an estimate on what the engine damage is gonna cost me? (the Tuned port injectors)

I personally think that if the hole car is in good shape other than the motor than yeah you are getting a good deal. 1300 is a cheap price to pay for a decent bodied project car.
Is this going to be your only car ??
How easy the engine work is going to be depends on you and possibly the help you might be getting while doing the engine pull or swap and what kind of shape the wiring harness was left in.
does the owner still have the old intake and parts ?
Installing a 350 would be no different than installing a 305 as long as the heads are of the same 3rd gen bolt pattern if not you have to get an after market tpi intake and injectors

My first thought was, if he stripped the TPI out, did he strip the wiring harness? Is the ECM still in car? Do you have the stuff he took off? All the sensors, plentum, runners, intake, Throttle body, fuel rails, injectors, etc. etc. All that can add up pretty quick if you need to buy replacement parts. I agree, $1300.00 for a project car that is in reasonabely in good shape is a good find. Not sure what other finances you have but by the sounds of things, you will need to spend a little more to convert back to TPI, also figure on spending some time sorting out the bugs after you make the swap. Sounds like fun, good luck.

yeah' I'll be finding out if he has all the other TPI elements this week. I'd rather not have to go around grabbin all of em.
How hard is it to install that kinda stuff? I've never worked on a tune port injected engine...at all.

That depends on your mechanical abilities and your patience? If you take your time, do your home work, understand what your doing before you do it, no problem. If you hurry, your looking for trouble. Also, if your tool collection is not up to speed, that might make it more difficult. Plan on buying what you need when you need it, that will be a good approach, you will not be able to foresee all the problems you will incounter until you incounter them, like I said earlier, time and money! If this is your only car, you might want to rethink what your doing. If this project car is for fun and a challenge, and can take as long as it takes, it is all good!

If I put a few hours into it everyday with a friend who knows his engine stuff (I know a little...can change my oil, install alternators, air intake ****...heads...stuff of that sort) do you think it'd be feasible to finish in a week?
BTW, it isnt a 1LE car...the A/C was taken out manually.
I mean, I guess what Im asking is, if Im dilligent, and best case scenario, all I gotta do is reinstall the tuned port injectors, how long would that take me?
I want this thing to be an everyday driver, heh.

It will be tough to get it back to the way it is supposed to be. Once somebody like that gets a hold of a car and molests it in the way you have described, it will take patience and effort to get it back to par.
You also have to take into consideration any modifications he did to the fuel system in order to switch to carb. Most people don't know how to do an induction swap well without butchering things (snip, chop, rip, etc).

yeah, thats my biggest fear. Hopefully it was a halfway done project, and the fuel system is pretty clean.
Will try to get some pics up...do they allow em on these forums, or do i gotta link it from offsite?

I did my TPI swap on my truck in a week and 2 weekends. I could have finished it in a week but I had to wait on parts to get to the house (harness, fuel pump, ect.). I had never even pulled my throttle body off before, and it has been running 100% for about a month now and I picked up 9 tenths in the 1/4
I am about to help a buddy of mine swap his L69 Camaro to MAF TPI, which I haven't played with before (no difference except for trying to manage the intake routing with the MAF sensor, but hey, its kinda new). Asside from taking care of the fuel system it should be just as easy as it was for me. And you don't have to get a custom harness since your car actually used to HAVE TPI. But I do have a harness sitting back home if you need it. Its cut where it would go into the driver side firewall though
But I have no use for it, and you could have it if you need it for just the cost of shipping. (my mom just wants it out of her garage).
