Finally installed 383 but......
Hello everyone, I finally have my 383 installed and running. The only problem I am experiencing is that the motor will not start on its own. The only way to get it started is by squirting a little fuel into the lt1 intake, after that it starts right away. We noticed that there is no power to the injectors when cranking, there is only power on the "key on" position. The distributor is not giving a pulse when cranking. There is also adequate fuel pressure when priming and cranking(and timing is bang on). I was told that something has to be by-passed...I do not remember what!!!
Any suggestion would be great!!Thanks in advance.

Have you checked the TPS to make sure you don't have 4-5 volts when cranking?
I'm assuming you mean once you squirt it, it stay's running?
I had the same problem after I installed my stealth ram manifold (no dis. ref pulses). turned out that the problem was as simple as an unplugged connector at the distributor, the two pin one that connects to the coil. So, I'd just check to make sure that all your ignition based wiring harnesses are plugged in nice n' tight; specifically the two on the coil and two on the distributor. Also, if you've got an aftermarket ignition, check that your wiring is correct and none of the wires are damaged... I also found that my MSD wires actually broke in half right at the solder!
If that doesn't work, the Chilton's manual has a procedure for diagnosing ignition problems by singling out individual parts of the system. Oh yeah, I had to replace the ignition module in the distributor before too.... but that was a long time ago.

Thats what happened to me. The electronics in the distributor took a crapper and would not fire the injectors. I had spark, but noid light proved that the injectors were not getting a pulse width.
Buy a new distributor.
But, of course, make sure every thing is plugged in correctly.

Thanks guys, I'll try those suggestions out. Now that I think about it a few years ago when we first installed the vette engine and harness we had this exact same problem. We by-passed the ninth injector and grounded it.....or something along those lines anyways.
