Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)
Where did you see a price? I looked today and it showed $0.

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)
16 pages of pissin and moanin about wanting a new intake at nearly any cost, and then they announce a price consistent with other aftermarket EFI systems, and everyone is back to pissin and moaning about the price.
Typical.
Typical.

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)
idk, im still very skeptical about it making 50+hp and tq, on a "stock" motor. with just an intake change. maybe they shoved a nice cam in there at the same time. then it would make sense.

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)
I have always liked the look of the stock TPI or the HSR. But this intake looks kinda ugly to me, However this intake does looks a lot better than the Accel supper ram. When I look at this intake I get the feeling something is missing like the distributor cover, or it just looks a lot shorter than the stock TPI. I like how long the stock TPI unit looks.
But for its price its cheaper than getting new runners and lower intake from edelbrock or SLP's stuff and it sounds like it might out perform them too. I wounder if it has room for extra porting. I guess we will find out what people do to make this intake to look better and flow better thats just my

The real test would be on a modified car with heads and a proper cam to see the true benifits.

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)
Looks like they extended the powerband quite a bit though, and while the peak hp gain was only 9hp, they are making significantly more power over stock for a much longer period of time. Stock TPI is dying off faster in those 4K plus RPM's while the BBK intake is falling much slower. I think it will be a good upgrade. I have a lingenfelter ported TPI going on my motor, but I am thinking about this setup for the future. All and all I think they are headed in the right direction here.

What's kind of funny is that I sold my TPI Corvette, bought a Z06, sold my LS1 Z28 and am buying a TPI Formula all while watching this thread. I'd really like to see another induction option on the market, but I'm not going to hold my breath over it...

It's funny. They want so much for this intake.
HSR promises the same gains. To top it off. BBK has horrible customer service. I meant to say non-existent.
I was super interested at first, then I read this thread. The more I learned the more the intake looks like a waste of money just like everything else BBK has.

........... lucikly Illinois isnt doing anymore emissions for pre 1995 cars so HSR is defintly an option for myself in the future, but I feel bad for all the guys waiting that need the emissions equip. and want a better intake for the important 4000-5600 rpm band...... As long as the quality is outstanding all of this will hopefully be forgotten.... just have to wait and see the out come, I agree with danziger... dont hold your breath

.The HSR is a good option, but I'm not thrilled about cutting the hood bracing.
The FIRST intake looks promising, but not enough people own them to get a feel for their performance.
The Miniram/LT1 has its merits, but HP gains are all over the map and they aren't cheap.
The Superram has the beefy midrange and increased HP that I want, but is hideously ugly and there are so many stories about leaks and fitment.
Anyways, I have high hopes for the BBK, but it has taken longer than the new Camaro to get into production...

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)
Ok, so I contacted BBK about intake port size and after explaining to them what 1206 sized intake port was
they said it would be oem sized but able to be ported. Which didnt help a whole lot but i take that to mean it wont be like the HSR(not enough metal to port). I also asked whether it would withstand high boost pressure being that it is a 3 peice design. I got no answer which means A: they dont care or B: it wont and or they are unsure that it will. Either way Ill stick with the miniram.

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)
It was pretty dissapointing to be honest. Firstly that he didnt know what the hell i was talking about. Secondly he didnt give me any info as to what the port size is or even just what gasket they used would help. Very vague. Not what i would expect from someone in the tech/R&D department.
"It should fit performance heads and it will also be port-able if you feel like you nee to do some grinding on it."
Thats straight from the horses mouth. But like I said before and explained to him, other intakes say they "fit" performance heads but dont match port size and cannot be ported to match.

I'm not impressed at all...guess we'll have to wait and see how it does on once it FINALLY comes out...don't the LS1tech guys are waiting on the Weiand Street Warrior for just as long, well noy THIS long but you know..sucks waiting and waiting...I think I'll go with the First Injection Setup..when I have the cash too.

there is a thread in Alternative Port EFI Intakes for the BBK.
but with a price of $750.00 without a throttle body, IMO, FIRST has the advantage price wise.

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)
I finally got to talk with someone in the loop at BBK. He was very candid that because this is such a technically complicated product to produce, they keep putting much simpler, much higher demand products in front of it (various mass air meters and throttle bodies for Mustangs and LS3s).
They are currently working on the fixtures to hold the castings for machining for the TPI manifold, and he says that they are now shooting for May production. It's coming, but it's coming slowly.

Looks like they are making progress on it. The diameter of the runners will make it larger than anything out there outside of the First Injection intake system. Should be a good performer.
Hey Bradlyj8Z28 you will need to get some mods on that LS1 swap if you want to keep up with the SoCal TPI cars.

Sorry for the long delay guys. We are still working on the TPI intake with full intentions of releasing it as soon as possible. We do have other projects going.
I've been told that the TPI is the next product to go into the tooling phase where the tool maker fabricates the fastners and hold downs that will locate the castings for the intake in the CNC machines.

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)
Why do they have other projects? Why even a business? This intake, with EGR, shoulda been their only focus until it was on our cars. At this point, they've missed at least 50% of the sales they would have had. 4 years ago, I woulda bought it, no questions asked. But these days you can get a complete, running LQ9 for $650.
Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)
That's what everyone else says about the parts they want for their cars...
To keep things flowing, BBK has to have all of the employess working on projects that overlap each other. There are instances like this manifold for example where we had to wait for castings to be poured. So while the castings were being poured, another project were started, or progress was made on a pending project.
We can't have employees dedicated to one project only or else they would be standing around with nothing to do for months on end. I wish we could put out new items faster, but I can say with pride that the items we do put out are good quality at affordable prices.

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)
In an attempt to be fair, I apologize for assuming BBK to be a small operation. Still, 4 years!I still might use your SSI on my '89 LX 5.0 hatch. Why should I spend $699 for a heavy, heat-transferring aluminum intake manifold with no TB, but with FPR and rails, when for $50 less I can get a lightweight, phenolic, thermoplastic intake with TB, FPR, rails, high-flow heads, a cross-bolted-6-bolt-mains block, powdered metal rods, nodular crankshaft, flattop pistons, hydraulic roller cam, beehive valvesprings, 1.7:1 roller-fulcrum rocker arms, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera?

An aluminum intake manifold will be hotter to the touch than plastic one. However it's affect on the intake air charge is really nothing notable.
The intake air charge goes through the manifold so fast that the temperature of the manifold has no affect on the temperature of the charge as it reaches the cylinder heads.
If you crank up your oven to 450 degrees and open the door, then thrust your hand in and pull it back out as fast as you can without touching anything inside you will not get burned. In fact you will barely feel anything.
Now imagine that your hand is the incoming air and that the oven is the manifold and multiply the speed at which you are able to get your hand in and out about 500% which would represent air coming in at idle speeds.

Correct me if I am wrong here.
4 years ago BBK had an idea for TPI intake. Then it was shelved until 2008.
All the designing and enginering happened last year. So this 4 year deal is quite a stretch.

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)
Very sad when you can build 2 new 50,000 square foot buildings in half the time it takes to do this intake, face it you don't care if it gets out the door or you have a very bad R & D and production departments. Hey how about you hire the contractor thats building your buildings to produce it I bet he can get it done in less then five years.

I really wanted the BBK due to being able to use the stock fuel lines and rails. I highly doubt I still won't be finished with my Head/Cam swap by May. HSR it is I guess.

Looks a whole lot like the Accel SuperRam to me, i think they could have done better then this. No doubt its probably better then the stock system, but id rather get the TPIS runner n such and be done wiht it.

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)
It's great that an aftermarket company is making parts for the TPI cars. For $750 range, that's alittle steep. that's superram, miniram territory, proven winners. Best bang for the buck looks like the stealth ram, even with all the extra parts. It looks like I can use my BMR strut bar and my NOS plate with the BBK. If it was around $500-$550 range, I'll put an order in.
Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)
As with any manufacture, focus tends to get shifted to items that are priority. And especially in the last year, priority is concentrating on products that bring in the bacon. The TPI is such a small market so that's probably attributed to it getting put on the backburner. All the bitching on this board and I bet there would only be a few people to actually buy this intake when it becomes available. It's like group purchases.....everybody wants in on the deal, but when it comes time to do the deed, these people are know where to be found. IMO, its even a blessing that someone has stepped up to even try and offer us guys another option when other manufactures have stopped production on units as TPI sales have gone to almost nothing! I want to see this thing get produced as much as the next person and also agree it shouldn't take that long to build. Keep us up to date Bryan and thanks for posting!

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)
i would have bought this intake if it had come out sooner and was priced lower.
with the suggested price right now, when you figure a new throttle body into it, the FIRST is cheaper at the regular price.
for someone who has already has a new TB, the BBK may be a ok deal.
i got in on the recent FIRST GP, i'll have my intake tuesday.
if cash had allowed, i would have gotten 2, maybe i can get the other one on the next GP from FIRST.

Interesting dyno. It loses 16lbs peak torque, gains 9 peakhp, but gains 50hp/tq under and after the curve.
Besides not being released what's not to like? Why do we have to get an aftermarket TB?
