Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)

Why should they. SBC is old technology. Whats next are they going to make an EFI intake for the flathead ford?

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)

Well, they shouldn't be toting it on their website and drawing attention to it if they are not interesting in marketing it right? All they're doing now is pissing people off. No one is forcing them to do the manifold now are they....

I understand, and I feel your pain, but I don't think they fear the economic anger of a small group of guys with 17-20yo cars.

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)

Well my car was 17 to 20 years old when the thread started and a lot of the people who were interested at first have died of old age.
But the reality is there is a lot more money to be made from people who can afford a new 40 thousand or more dollar car. Also the fact that it can't compete on cost with a HSR or probably can't be ported to out perform a ported SLP/accel or ported First intake probably sealed its fate.
It also doesn't help with how easy/cheap it is now to get big horsepower out of the LS engines that are readily available in a junkyard. In hindsight what I did with my Gen1 sbc really was like putting EFI on a flathead.

"Pretty! the new fad, will be original stock plenum. with modifications of coarse. Beside the new generation would rather have LSX, you dudes are right. Nobody remembers the tpi. Its all LS1, etc, talk in the streets .
Almost twenty five years. a quarter century ago tpi was introduced in 85'. The BBK president should price dump the market with the tpi stuff, they're
not going make any money anyways, they're too busy changing the BBK Prez's dad's oil on a 06' Charger. Just stating facts. wait a minutes there's that Charger's horn again, better get h'er lubed up again, Its like that Show Orange County Choppers but more sad. and vividly depressing, worse than Michael Jackson's child hood."-quoted from a buddy, not me BTW

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)

I dont care if it is a dead horse or whatever the hell you call it, I just sent this to BBK. Maybe if a few more people send similar messages we can at least get them to pull the ads down.

"Dear BBK,

I would like to start this letter on a positive note. First off, I have always given your products the benefit of the doubt and taken your seemingly great reputation as the entire picture; but it turns out it was just superficial. 2 years ago I purchased a fuel pump from your company for my 91 Trans Am through summit racing. A week after my fuel pump was installed I was halfway across the country on a road trip driving to my new DUTY STATION from Twentynine Palms California to Havelock North Carolina and your trusty fuel pump gave out. I flipped open my Summit catalog furious and demanded I be able to talk to (you) BBK. They said, it wasn't possible...that strangely you did not have a number for customers to call. Thank you by the way, I really enjoyed limping my car 800 miles because I had no time to get it fixed, and a wife and dog in the car dying of heat exhaustion. By the time it was all said and done and I was situated in North Carolina I figured I would just let it go and chalk one up to experience. And now, I am reading your company getting SMASHED by HUNDREDS of people who TRIED TO BE YOUR CUSTOMERS but couldn't because (you guessed it) your TPI intake manifold is nowhere to be seen! Heck! The darn thing is ON SUMMIT! But good luck ordering one. 5 YEARS you have been taunting us with this thing. You people ought to be ASHAMED! The only updates we (the third-gen community) get are all BS and have the feel of a car sales man transferring messages from the high and mighty manager.

5 YEARS HAVE GONE BY! I understand you need time to make things right, but guys your not selling new Camaros. No one is going to keep waiting. So you may as well fart the intake out AS IS or don't bother. And I want you to take what I said earlier to heart. I do not care for your company any longer, I only write this now as a warning. Take it, or prove to all of us just how much you don't like money.

By the way...I bought a TPIS Miniram instead of waiting on your Turtle ram."

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)

I have given up on this intake a very long time ago. BBK, w/out a doubt, lost the opportunity to capitalize on this one years ago, as people are not only frustrated with their constant delays, but as was already mentioned, technology is constantly moving forward. Soon you'll be able to find complete LS1 engines for about the same money as the suggested BBK intake's price because of what they're coming out with today, and who in their right mind would buy an intake for their LB9/L98 when they can have a complete LS1 engine for essentially the same amount money....

There are so many different routes to go with the traditional SBC; Siamesed stock TPI, HSR, MiniRam, SuperRam, LT1 intake swap, FIRST, single plane w/90 degree elbow, etc, that it defeats the purpose of having another one now. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that a company is trying to keep the TPI image alive, but their shooting themselves in the foot if they think that these cars will be around forever. In the 90's, I rarely seen 2nd gens roaming the street, and in the 2000's, I started to see even less 3rd gens, and hardly any C4 Corvette's, and most kids today don't even know what Tuned Port Injection even is. I don't even see that many TPI's at the track anymore, and I literally live there. Bryan, from a business perspective, you guys need to capitalize on this now if your looking to make any type of a substantial profit, not five more years from now, nor when the SBC becomes obsolete....

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)

Some very valid points have been brought up here. I don't see BBK making a profit worth talking about if they wait too much longer. They want to make it 50 state legal but soon we will all be exempt because of classic car status. Also, the R&D to make it 50 state legal ups the price. For those people that are looking to buy this intake, they are not trying to keep it legal, they are the hot rodders and street light warriors that don't care about smog checks or some lame ****. It is time for BBK to say "Ok, this is what we got, who wants it?" Quit R&Ding this thing. What is left to check and look over? After 5 years, it isn't ready? What is taking so damn long.

On a side note, I think that the reason they are taking so long is their lack of experience with the chevy crowd. I've always thought of BBK as a Ford supporting company. I don't know, maybe I got the wrong impression about them. I just see them as supporting Mustangs more than Camaros and Birds.

If your in CA as far as I know if your car is from 76 or newer you must retain all smog equipment to keep the car legal. The whole 25 years and older law does not apply anymore. So I am very interested in a real High Flow smog legal intake for myself. I don't feel like spending $1200 on a miniram and paying a couple hundred bucks underneath the table whenever I need to get my car smogged. I also don't have the time, money, and experience to port my edelbrock baseplate and SLP runners in order to get the same numbers as the miniram, and stealthram folks.

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)

Who even cares anymore? For people currently building or penning together an engine build I'd go ahead and do it without this part as you could run out of life waiting for this to come out. They probably didn't even get brilliant numbers from it and have had to do a couple of redesigns to try and make them acceptable. The only thing that would surprise me with this project anymore would be if it was actually released and turned out to be worthwhile. Time to unsubscribe from this waste of time.

It will be interesting to see if it ships in 6 days, not that I am cynical. But if it does ship and it has some kind of a smog number for California, well congratulations to BBK.

It won't ship in six days. Notice how they still have not released even the install instructions or additional pics. The intake is still not ready. They have been playing that "it will ship in misc. days" for almost a year now.

Once the install instructions are released with some actual photos and Jegs or Summit say "in stock" I will believe it. Summit actually pulled it off there website once they started getting the run around from BBK.

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($749.99)

Has anybody tried to purchase one from jegs? I mean if there is a price and an add to cart. May as well try, who knows maybe you wont get the email saying that this product isnt stocked and maybe youll get the mail one morning and recieve a sexy new intake that will challenge the hsr and mini ram. It looks better and the size of the runners will still provide good torque along with horsepower. Ease of install might be easier too seeing as it may be egr compatible.

I can't stop laughing!!!! the lockness monster is about as close as you are going to get to a BBK intake.

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)

I remember when I first saw this post years ago I thought the BBK intake was the one for me. But since then I had a Holley Stealth Ram & now I have a ported/siamesed Edelbrock setup. Heck I moved from Connecticut to Northern Cali now I'm in Southern Cali. If this intake does come out I may still buy it who knows.

This intake is not proven obviously, and imo an indication of the company.

It just looks cheap.

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)

I believe demand has exceeded supply and driven the price up. On Jegs they are now $899, $1149 with 58 mm TB and the one with the TB has a shipping date only 5 days from now. My guess is they had a hard time finding the Unobtainium used to cast the intake and had to pay more for it.
All kidding aside, surely they wouldn't increase the price of a product they have no intention of shipping. I guess we will find out in the next five years.

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)

So, the price only went up what.. about 125% in the last 5 years of "comming soon", and guess what it still isn't here. Going by the current trend when it comes out in 2015, and there's maybe a dozen tpi's left it should sale for a measely $2000+. I've joked about the $3k wheels on $300 cars before, this will be the $3k intake on $300 cars by the time this thing comes out.
What a joke! BTW HSR owner now.
