Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)

I talked to BBK a couple of weeks back about this intake setup, and got a this response, "it might be ready in 6 months and sell for $750" TPI setups came out when??!!!! With all this R&D this intake had better be worth the wait. I really liked all of BBK's items for my old 5.0, but in order for me to even think about 750 bucks for an intake for a TPI I want to see no less than a 6800 RPM fall point on the curves

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)

I dont know why anyone cares. This intake is about 15 years too late. The TPI market is shrinking all the time. TPI and even the LT1 is not the hot swap it used to be. The LS engines have taken care of that.

that just makes me mad, not only is crossfire more obsolete then TPI theres actually a company making a intake for crossfire, but BBK has been in R&D for this TPI intake for what 5 years. umm hello this isn't rocket science we all know what a TPI needs....MORE AIR!....how does it take 5 years to R&D how to get more air in....but the crossfire guys are getting an intake. (no offense to anyone running crossfire just making a point a venting a little)

they've been working on that for a couple of years, that's the first cast version I've seen though all the others were of the welded variety.

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)

ive designed probably the best tpi intake out there. factors in velocity, pressure, flow, and is actually tuned to be equal for every cylinder instead of a air fade intake.. I bet each of us could come up with a million dollar idea, cutout the middle mad (BBK) and bring forth some new ideas, beyond the ancient days of internal combustion and maybe work towards other chemical reaction that create power other than the internal combustion engine. The play field is there, its wide and open. With the ability to discovery new thing and be able to be connected to geniuses such as this board, anything is possible.. All im saying if it got as far as flying car prototypes, id vote the 3rd gen inspiring all the way. I mean if BBK can R&D this junk, we pull together and conceive the unmentionable. Something to think about...btw my design is available upon demand, its nothing serious, just designed it to make a joke out of BBK. Actions speak larger than words BBK. BBSUCKS

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)

Good lord, I remember this thread back when I got my FIRST tpi firebird. Now I'm onto the LSx platform, are they going to wait until there are no more TPI motors left? Also, for a 10-12hp increase I'd say 900+ is a bit steep. I'd spend my money on something like the HSR/Miniram or the modded LT1 intake, you can get 2-4x more power out of those for the same or less...

I'm suprised no one has built a lsx or hemi style intake for the small block chevy yet.

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)

He means composite, which some one already tried to get going, but the intake on a standard SBC has coolant running through it as well as extreme heat under it from the oil valley. It wouldn't work very well and wouldn't hold up. Best option is STILL miniram/HSR or another sheet metal equivalent.

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)

It would still be do-able. 4.6 mustangs have a intake that is plastic for the air and aluminum for the coolant crossover. Not a bad idea at all. Lots of runner length AND flow with a plenum BELOW the runners. I like the idea, especially if it puts the throttle body in the same place and uses an LSx TB.

Yeah I think they would be great being one peice and still having long runners. Also you wouldn't have to worry about hood clearance, or strut brace clearance.

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)

A mod needs to close this thread, BBK won't ever have this intake come out. Even if it does, $800 for a 15 horsepower gain isn't worth it in my opinion. At that price, it would never sell. I hope someone closes this thread because it is pointless, it hasn't come out in 5 years, it will never come out.

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)

I have to redo the engine setup in one of my birds and I'll probably do a 383 sbc, and I would love to try the turtle ram but it isn't out. I already have a mini ram so if the turtle ram didn't work for me, I already have a replacement intake. Mods need to close this, maybe that would send a message to BBK!

Their R&D is like their company name, Back Behind Keyboard!

Close this thread already!

Attention all haters!!!!! Just got off the phone with jegs about the 50140 intake. Guy said one was sold March 15 and will be delivered April 30. He also said jegs order one to keep on hand and ship date from BBK is sometime in July. I know ya'll are tired of this intake but I see light at the end of the tunnel.
Dude, the guy who ordered it on March 15th will not get his intake on April 30th. They have not even finished the tooling for the thing. April 30th will come and go and Jegs will cancel the guys order. Jeg's has already played this game with customers. If you don't believe me just call BBK and ask them direct and they will tell you straight it's no where near being ready.

They have not even releashed additional photos or install instructions and you think they are ready to ship it in 3 weeks?

At this point there is nothing even left of the horse, now your all just beating dirt. Go beat your meats instead, I guarantee you'll get more satisfaction out of that then waiting for this unicorn to show up.

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)

I have always thought of bbk as a Mustang supplier... I was waiting on this product, then decided on an LS swap. I surely wont be buying any bbk products for my LS1 or my Camaro.

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)

I`m going to have to agree with that as well. The guy from BBK that was on here probably quite checking the thread.Thats too bad. They might see how much potential business the are loosing. Some may say the 3rd gen market is to small to care about but business is business and money is money.Cant imagine after the R&D they did they dont want to make money.

Re: BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00)

Woo Hoo according to the Jegs site the manifold ships April 23, only 7 more sleeps. But, wait a minute, the manifold and TB ship July 07, 82 sleeps away.
I think there are only 4 possible explanations
1) By pretending to have an intake in the works they are trying to discourage others from producing a TPI manifold and
2) People eventually give up on their Gen 1 builds and buy one of their existing products for a LT1 or LS conversion or
3) They stopped production because it was costing too much for the amount of possible sales and to save "face" they are letting it fade away without admitting failure or
4) They are buying time until their DeLorean time machine is working and they can go back in time and introduce the intake October 2009. You might wake up tomorrow morning and have a BBK intake on your TPI.

October 2009 will still be 4 1/2 years after the first post on BBKs website. The first date was early 2005 from BBK.

If I found one on my car... the car will be sent to the junk yard, so the intake will be with all the other parts BBK produces.
