where can I buy a new ecm and maf??
where can I buy a new ecm and maf??
Looking for a resaonable source for a new MAF and ECM other than the rebuilds at auto parts stores. We put a new motor in my sons 88 and the MAF (now we know) was bad yet the ecm never threw a code 34! It would constantly thow a code 43 and tried replacing all the parts listed under code 43 (or is that 42??) except the ecm.
Well, now we have to pull the dam motor back out because it is apparent it ran rich due to one or both of these items being faulty and washed the rings out.
Initially, we did get a rebuilt unit from oreilleys and try it (maf) because the car would surge at idle on a regular basis and even though the code did not suggest it, I wanted to try. Rebuilt unit from oreilleys made zero difference so we took it back. Come to find out from talking to a local mechanic, it is not uncommon to go through three or four of those auto part stores rebuilt units b4 you find a good one!
I believe the problem is with both the maf (car finally would not stay running till I disconnected maf completely) and the ecm both. The ecm is a rebuilt unit also.
Where can I find a new or GUARANTEED refurb unit?????
To make it a little more complicated on the ecm, I had ed wright burn me a chip fopr the ecm I have so I would most likely need a specific ecm.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks guys

a code 12 is the very first code that the ECM should flash.
flash (long pause) flashflash
that code should come up every time you check your codes.

Is that Wells MAF from the Autozone website the one that is higher flow than stock? I thought it was more expensive than that.
Thanks

Get an ecm from a junkyard, ebay or off of the classifieds from here. I am sitting on 3 730's and 1 165 myself. There is a listing of all the ecms from different cars that are avalible to be used.
