something went wrong
when i start my car the engine turns on for a second then the rpms fall back to zero and it dies.. i turned up my idle on my intake... now the rpms spike up and down and almost dies out but then it comes back alive.. then almost dies out and comes back to life so on so forth... i dont know what the problem is... probably something simple but... i dont know lol
another thing my car exhaust is starting to smell really bad and really strong.. i dont know alot about engines but im trading my engine up for a Lt1 anyways.. i just want to know.. If i can tune my engine to stop the smell...
for example ill be sitting next to mc'ds at the window and u can smell it really bad... not pleasent at all..
ive heard they sell some stuff that u can put in yer gas to make yer exhaust smell good is this true lol
alright peace n thanks

true about the cat. I was helping a couple of friends fix a mid-80's Camry, and they thought it was timing... until one of them suggested the cat being clogged. They undid the exhaust, and true enough.. it was the cat.

Fill the tank up with gas, replace the fuel filter, check fuel pressure. Might try to ohm test the injectors. It could be that one injector is bad so the ecm is tuning the engine based off of the bad injector.

Unplug your maf sensor and see if it runs better. If it does, replace the power and burn relays.
The smelly exhaust may mean it is running way rich, is there black soot in the tail pipes? It may be worth it to get a new o2 sensor.

just like the guy above me said, sounds like ur MAF or one of the relays for the MAF has gone bad. ditto, unplug ur maf and if the car runs better theres ur problem. id highly suggest buying the two new relays before buying the maf. the rich smell is normal when ur maf goes bad, since the computer cant properly measure air flow it the Air Fuel ratio is going to be all over the place.

I'll jump on the relays as well. On most TPIs if you start and it abruptly dies there is a fair chance one of your MAF relays are toast. Also check your fuel pressure. Any codes? State of tune?
