How do I set the Throttle Position Sensor?

I got a new one, plugged it in and it is really really running rich, I was told an OHM meter was supposed to be set to .54 or something but I have no idea how to or what tool I need to set it.

Please someone help I got a hot date tomarrow !

Good article. The only thing I see wrong is that you won't get THAT meter at WalMart for twenty bucks.

Well I can't seem to get it adjusted! How do I keep it tight but keep the voltage at .540

Set the TPS with the engine off, ignition ON. Only loosen the mounting screws a little, and try to hold the TPS body as you tighten the screws lightly. Snug one screw, then the other. Alternate the tightening so the TPS "walks" as little as possible. This should all be done while monitoring the TPS output voltage if possible. As long as you get teh output as close to 054V as practical, it should run correctly.


One thing to note is that this is a Throttle Position Sensor. If the throttle body is worn and is not repeatable, the TPS output could be different every time the throttle is opened and closed. If that's your condition, the TPS may not be at fault.
