coolant leaking

The gta was in storage since last summer because it wouldn't start. After countless part swaps like module and the coil and all that stuff a mechanic finally got it going.

The car's been sitting in the cold since winter started and I start her up every now and then.

I just did that right now and as I was sitting listening to her idle I smelt some coolant. I popped the hood and noticed some smoke and thought it might of been water from the snow dripping in a bit but it turned out to be coolant. It seems like it's coming from the upper rad hose.

The clamp looks tight but I'll have to take a better look at it later. It's freaking cold out and the snow on the hood was heavy so I couldn't lift it all the way.

This is exactly the same thing that happened to my '89 LTD before I left her to rot. I think I'm cursed, any car I own has some kind of coolant issues.

The gta has a new napa waterpump that was put in last year because it took a crap and pissed all over.

Any suggestions or insights as to what could be the worst thing wrong here. Cracked head or something of that nature?. I don't beat the car so there's no reason for it to be serious.

BTW If anyone needs a turdgen make me an offer .

Here's a little picture of where the coolant is. Picture was taken this summer.

Given where it's puddling, it's likely either:

1.) your hose clamp is too loose...
2.) your hose clamp was too tight in the past, and the hose is damaged...
3.) your thermostat housing gasket is leaking (watch that torque spec on the bolts!!)

You're not cursed. Whoever is working on it isn't paying attention.

I agree. This doesn't look serious or expensive to remedy. If the LTD had the same problem you let a car go to waste....

I know man, but when your $1000.00 on the hole and you've lost your job and rent is up other priorities show themselves.

The 302 was eating coolant like crazy though. The back shocks blew out so I couldn't even drive if I wanted.

And the car wasn't a total loss since the frame was rotting so bad that no sane person would drive it thinking that their safe.

I can get a friend to check the thermostat too. I didn't even know there was a gasket there, Does it come with the thermostat when you buy on or is it seperarte?.

or it could be alittle more seious...could be the water port on the intake manifold...thats a very common leak...just clean it up and try to look at where its comming from.
