Question about my car...

Yeah I have a 1991 z28 350 tpi camaro with 60,000 miles on it. It has a chameleon paint job, it looks great, runs greats, and is pretty quick. I have been thinking a lot lately about an LT1 or LS1 swap, but mostly an LT1 swap. I love 3rd gens don't get me wrong, but wouldnt it be much easier just to sell my car, and buy like a '95 z28 than going through the trouble of swapping in an LT1? Also, what kind of times would my car run say I swapped an LT1 into it, right now with the 350 tpi, I run 9.00 in the 1/8 mile. Another thing is I have little knowledge of engines especially wiring etc. Would a shop be able to swap in an LT1 into my car, or would I have to do it myself??

Have tried the Engine swap forum for LTs? Engine Swap

If you ever need to remove the engine from a 4th gen you'll need a body lift because the engine and front suspension come out from underneath.

Yeah, I know about all that **** on there, but i'm saying would it be easier just to buy like a 95 camaro than to actually swap the engine out of one and into my 91... I can't do it myself, I don't have the tools and I just don't know how.

Well, easier yes, if your not going to do any major engine work on it (just changing spark plugs is chore) go for it.
The equipment required for removing the engine from a 4th gen is what has kept me from buying one because I kept my stock 5.7L as a hot swap, and yes I do the swaps by myself, that's why I have a daily driver so that I don't have to rush to get it done.

4th gens are not for shade tree (Ok, cramped garage) mechanics like me.

what other options do I have besides swapping in an LS1 or LT1, like how hard would it be to make a 383 stroker...or to put a 396 big block in my car?

I'm using a Scat 3.75" 350 crank & 6" rods, and JE/SRP 4.000"+.060 forged aluminum flat top dished (-16cc) 1.25" compression height pistons for 388 cubes. A 396 is actually a Big block, but I think you can stoke the 350 using a 3.875 crank, but I don't think you'll find dished flat tops so you'll have to keep an eye on the CR and squish area.

you use the same equipment on a fourth gen as a third gen, i worked at two different performance shops a couple years ago and did many lt1's and ls1's, they all came straight out the top with a cherry picker, no different then a 3rd gen

those guys are stupid for pulling the whole k member from under the car, if you are getting your info from those two ding-a-lings then you need some help. i have pulled ls1's out from the top before, no biggie, in my garage. the one time i tried to do the k member thing to swap the crank in the car it turned out being a bigger pain then just pulling the ls1 out of the top. those knuckleheads on slowpower tv have no idea of how to make a car fast, that show is geared for the extreme novice hotrodder

the only ls1 that you HAVE to pull from the bottom is a c-5, this is why you charge 400 more to do it, its a pain in the ***

That's not a C-5, its a 98' Camaro.
My comments are of engine removal not making it go fast. Let's drop this line as we seem to be high-jacking Kyle's thread.

kylez28, pardon for the slight digression.
